Hi all,

I am still searching for a good rd-1. yesterday i was offered a epson rd-1 with a Voigtlander Ultron 28/1.9 and a voigtlander Heliar Classic 50/2.0.
I am just wondering : how are these lenses ?
Is there anyone over here who can give me some info ?

Thanks in advance

Alex ( from Holand)

They are both excellent lenses.

If you search the forum for both you will find a lot of information.

The Ultron 28mm is somewhat low-contrast, which some people prefer for digital since there is a limited dynamic range. It is somewhat large but the image quality is excellent. The Ultron is a thread mount lens and you will need to use it with an LTM->M adapter (which is probably included). Voigtlander just announced an M-mount 28/2 which will have a different optical design and a slightly smaller size.

The Heliar Classic has excellent build quality and a unique look (to its photos) that is different from most other 50mm lenses. Some people love it and others hate it. I personally think it's a very good lens. I've only handled it and not actually shot with it, so my opinion is based on shots that others have taken.

The CV 28mm has been rated as one of the best CV lens on the RD1, especially for black and white since as mentionned below it is low contrast and will draw an extended dynamic range. I own it and find it a bit too big (with hood) for every day use but with that speed and price, there are not many alternatives at 28mm.
Hope you finally nail a RD-1, good luck.

i have regretted selling my RD1... if the 28f1.9 ultron feels too big, the replacement (which is about to hit the market) is more compact. also not a big fan of the heliar classic, i would prefer the hexanon-M or the planar, short of the summicron.

I am currently using the Heliar Classic 50/2.0 on my R-D1, so far so good, quite satisfied with the results and it is small & handy. The only thing is the crop factor, you are actually getting about 75mm. Therefore I am planning for a 35mm as well.

I used more Heliar Classic 50/2.0 than Nokton 35/1.2 on the Bessa R2A film body, but since on the R-D1s they became 75 & 53 I almost never used the HC50/f2 anymore. On the film body I love both. They are very different.
