Die hard about film gear ?

Hmmm........... No I don't think so.

Besides a small issue of BW analaog materials lasting for a hundred years, for me it is just an issue of simple economics. Digital GOOD gear is quite a piece of great expense, as for me a start would be two bodies and three lenses and a high quality printer, an expense that will go down like a new computer within three years.

So, why cook & burn myself there where at the other end there is a festival of cheap offers ?

I was trying to think of an answer where I could offer up sufficient detail but keep it nice and clean for the kiddies!

[edit] ... not to mention that my computer has been in pieces while my son dissmantled it and replaced the hard drive and installed a new operating system ... I was having trouble letting go of windows 2000 but eventually it let go of me and XP was no longer an option but absolutely necessary!

Thanks for all the replies to my post, but I was really wanting to hear if:

"are there others out there willing to spend several hundred dollars to process their own film?"

Even though I am often willing to spend much more on a camera or lens than I just spent on my own mini-lab, I somehow felt like a "nut" or a "die-hard".

I don't think spending the several hundreds of dollars on the machine unreasonable at all. I would consider it too, but I don't really know much about the color process or the equipment used for it, and I mostly shoot B&W (but I have been using more color print film this summer).
