There have been at least 3 E-M3 previews in Eastern Europe where voblunda lives, but only one Canadian on the West coast has seen it, when an Olympus rep brought the only one in Canada to his dealer recently. I don't know when we'll see one in Toronto. Henry's made a YouTube video of their Olympus rep with one early this month, but James O said he didn't get to see the camera. I don't think it was ever in the store.Anyone know of anywhere that will have OM-Ds to handle in the Toronto area?

They have this week on show one silver body with 12mm and black body with the kit lens. Both with grip.
Again, I would strongly recommend to anyone who is interested in the camera to try handling it in person both with grip and without.

I normally don't pay much attention to test chart shots, but when the difference is as striking as this... it's hard not to look.
I kept seeing comparisons that indicates significantly better sensor performance. If this trend continues, soon those people who dismissed E-M5 as a "non-serious" camera would have to 'reconsider'

i agree will. ive gone from 'vaguely' interested on a purely intellectual level to i think this might be a groundbreaking cam that i must have. of course its all dependent on useability in low light at 16-3200. but if they nail that as it seems they might have, consider:
weatherproof cam plus lens with 24-100mm capability,
best IBIS ever put into a camera,
2-3 stop improvement in DR,
live bulb feature that takes all the guesswork out of long exposure photography,
numerous fully customizeable dials and buttons,
critical ability to separate AF control from exposure control,
separate critical focus magnification button.
honestly i would not be able to pass this up!

I do think I am going to do it. I want the Panasonic 25/1.4 though and apparently that is out of stock for the appropriate price everywhere. One camera, one lens. Or, it may be for me one camera and a lens cap. I don't think I want any other lens to go with this little guy. Trying to simplify my life.

Really? imagine if we can tweak the IR filter strength, that feature above will make IR photography a piece of cake.

yeah, it'll change long exposure photography of all kinds, truly groundbreaking. as i understand it, the feature allows you to view the exposure progression on the lcd in real time so that you can retrip the shutter exactly when the picture is where you want it!

I looked at this list of features again and I was reminded again of why I like Olympus. They are the antithesis of the "me-too" mentality. They innovate, not follow.
If Leica or Nikon were to come up with a camera with this list of innovations, that thing would be lauded up to the clouds
I also notice that some people *love* to hate Olympus. And I don't simply mean in a anti-fanboyism, "my brand is better" kind, but the intense hatred or dismissal on whatever they come up with. For an anecdotal "proof", see the poll attached to this thread.
I often think about this and I can't come up with a reason why this is the case.

The closest to this in the film world is Lith printing, where instead of watching a clock while the print is in the developer tray (after exposing it on the enlarger), you watch the print and see the black emerges in real time and you need to snatch the print from the developer tray and put it in fixer otherwise the whole print will go dark in a matter of half-seconds.

i've actually just done the opposite of what you did. i'm passing on my E-P2 and lenses on to my partner and have pre-ordered a 5D Mark III.

I suspect I will also end up with that set of lenses : got the 12 and 25 already for my E-P1 but still undecided between the 45/1.8 or PL macro.
But I'm planning to use the E-M5 very much in conjunction with a M6 and a M9.
The are complimentary cameras and I would not be all that happy with one alone.
The Leica Ms are more craftsmans's tools : a joy to use with 28-90 lenses; can achieve good focus differentiation and with film optical printing is still a zen like experience.
The E-M5 adds in a very light compact prime set with IBIS assisted wide angles for indoors; high ISO for travel plus casual/environmental portraits; macro and the occasional video.
Now that m43 has a full suite of native AF lenses, the lack of EVF resolution matters less, if the AF can be trusted to get it right. I did not enjoy manually focusing legacy lenses on crop bodies through the LCD or EVF even with contrast peaking.

It's really pretty clear. It's much like the intense hatred that emanate from finding out that someone swooped in and scooped up your fantasy girl while you were looking the other way. You didn't know she was available and you lost the race.
Most OM haters are really bitter losers where passion or love is concerned.
Not so hard to figure out, and makes you relish your win that much more. I love to see that bitter hatred on the faces of Non OM users.
