Are you into DSLR's

Bill,

That what I get for speaking too broadly. I haven't had a chance to look through a D200 yet, but the istDS is defintiely better than the D70, D50, 10D, 20D, etc. that I normally think of. For a person on a DSLR budget the isDS is tought to beat, especially if they already have a supply of M42 or PK lenses on hand.

Best regards,

Don

I agree 100% with you. I am still very pleased with my choice. Also - there are beginning to be third-party providers pop up. Two companies making BRIGHTER viewscreens (the *ist DS is user-replaceable) and even ... wait for it ... with split-screen (misnamed 'rangefinder') and micro-prism focus aid! I needs me that stuff. $100 but if it works, well worth it for my tired old eyes.

I also agree that the Minolta anti-shake is terrific stuff. That was about the only thing that was swaying me when I was making my decision. At the time, there was only a 7D, no 5D, and the price difference was large. So I went with the *ist DS and I haven't been sorry.

Sorry, I kinda fell behind. Ywenz, you put two words in one sentence which make my
skin crawl. I don't know what it is with me and Canon--probably my inherent resistance to anything hugely popular. As far as lens compatibility is concerned, I
presently have adapters to enable the use of M42 lenses on Canon EF and Minolta A
mounts, so I have plenty of options, with certain limitations in lens function, of course. It is partly the better performance at high ISOs which appeals to me, plus--again going against the flow--I prefer the smaller APS size sensors, because that
makes a 50mm more like 75 or 80 (depending on system)--I don't have the need
for ultrawides. Just think what a certain 75mm f/1.4 lens goes for, and you'll know
where I'm coming from with this. And I think the quality of most 50/1.4s would be
sufficient, when matched with a 6mp sensor, to perform rather well--good enough
for my purposes.
If Canon would make a DSLR exactly like their beautiful EOS IX APS SLR, that would
do it for me. OK, so it wasn't titanium (my fetish metal), but stainless steel is not
too shabby.
