I'm really shaking my head at the nonsense and sometimes general low knowledge about how lenses work, in general.
People freaking out about a f1.0 aperture and they go thinking it's all and only about boke, minimal sharpness and whatnot.
Here is a test.
Here is an image. Please study it carefully and show how much you really know.
Please don't come up with the silly "it's an internet image so it's hard to judge" reason. There is enough information in there to acknowledge it is sharp, it is focused close, the boke characteristics, contrast and so on...
So the question: Was it shot with a Summilux-asph 50 wide open? Noctilux Wide open? Summilux 75 wide open? Summicron 90 wide open? Nikkor 85 1.4 Wide open? Noct-Nikkor wide open? Hexanon 50 f2 wide open? Summilux 35 pre-asph wide open?
Show how much you know!!!
(Exif will invariably show f1.0 aperture regardless of lens used so don't vote by looking at the false exif)

Call me ignorant, but I couldn't give two hoots what it was taken with - it's just a nice photo.
Anyway, I'll have a go & say 35mm focal length on digital body!

Ned, you have such a subtle and delicate manner of communication. (sarcasm)
It's an image presented at 72dpi on monitors that vary in their accuracy. (This is NOT a "silly" response.) I'd have to see at least an 11x14inch darkroom print to assess accurately the technical qualities of the image. Content-wise it's a lovely and strong image.

No there isn't. You can't tell anything about the lens's sharpness by looking at a tiny 72dpi web image - many an unsharp full-sized image looks sharp when shrunk so small. You also can't tell anything about the contrast of the lens, because the final contrast of the image depends on the film, development and scanning (if it's a film shot), and on the contrast that one's individual monitor displays - the contrast differences between different monitors are at least on a par with the contrast differences between different lenses (all you can really tell from looking at web images is the difference in contrast between different lenses, if all other things are equal). There is enough information in there to acknowledge it is sharp, it is focused close, the boke characteristics, contrast and so on...
Very nice shot though

While I disgree with FrankS - I dont find his image to be all that strong and all that lovely - I'll venture a guess on a lens. It's either 35mm or a Noct-Nikkor IMO.

Oh - and your poll doesnt have all the lens options.

the shot is taken on the M8 (according to EXIF data), so will have to take crop factor into account too.

I don't see anything sharp, but what do I know from a laptop monitor.
And oh, I am shaking my head at some of the nonsense and arrogance you display.

Strong? What do you mean that this image isn't strong?
What I will say is that this picture is technically good. The framing is vertical so we as viewers don't have to selectively hunt for the subject. Shooting at a wide aperture was also a nice touch because it breaks the diagonals on the upper left corner, and the lighting is excellent given the constraints.
When it comes to baby pictures, there aren't too many out there that are as good as this one.

What do I mean? Just that I have seen a zillion similar ones. Fact that this one was done with a leica and some fancy lens doesnt make it any more special to a viewer, other than a parent. Just my opinion.

OK Ned, I guessed 75mm Summilux. But only because there was no option for "Yes, I am that ignorant."
Actually, I agree with the others. There may be insufficient information to answer definitively. Or perhaps, it's simply that I'm not that familiar with the signatures of all those lenses. Noctilux seems too obvious.

Ok. Let me also agree with you that many people tying themselves into twists over nuances between lenses on internet forums really don't know what they are talking about. Many haven't used the lenses, some have owned them but are incapable of really pushing their limits - and some just talk because that is what they like to do. You have the lens - so why care about jabberings on net forums? But perhaps this is for amusement, if so fair enough - whatever rocks your boat.

PS: I haven't a clue about the Noctilux because I haven't used one - someone I trust and admire (not you!) loves the lens, so I have a mild curiosity about it but no opinion on its image quality.

Krosya,
I just chose a picture from my computer, nothing fancy... No probs.

I'm glad you don't trust and admire me, believe me. Imagine how crazy that would be. You don't even know me.
I don't trust nor do I admire you. Did I really have to point the obvious?

Ah, it was satireI have to admit I'm ignorant too. I would have a helluva hard time choosing from that list-- which was the point--
I'd venture that most people wouldn't be able to tell which lens it was even from a large print.

Mutual distrust and lack of admiration is a great thing. Far better than mutual fawning and back scratching.

I'm thinking it is a Holga, scanned at walmart
Or maybe a pin-hole and they kept VERY still
However, that is a great baby, did it come with a commemorative box?
