1. Price is a function of willingness to spend. One can get a user condition 1950's Leica case for $30 or less at a camera show, or a brand new Luigi case for $200 or more.
You pay what you like. The protection is the same.
2. I detect a certain disdain of those who use cases by those who think of themselves as shooters, as if the use of a case somehow moves them closer to the camp of "collectors" and "fondlers" and makes them less of "shooters". Such "shooters" think that to have a well-brassed camera with dings, dents, scratches and knocks somehow makes them more manly.
I don't buy that.
As for changing film, it takes what, 10 seconds, to unscrew the case? And you can shoot again immediately after reloading, without having to put the case back into its case.
What's the big deal?
