Plasma from back when I had a job...Samsung makes a great TV, especially so with watching House, MD and NatGeo. Now that House, MD is gone, I reckon I will just have to give up on TV mostly until college football season starts again!:D

Then, all of our old tube TVs will be on in every room when my favorite team(s) play.:p Don't reckon I will ever throw them out, they are so big and heavy that I can't move them by myself. Darned kids moved out, got married, and left the huge boxes here at the house for me to deal with...

Fairly recent Panasonic 42" plasma, for the colours.
I use it mostly (not very often) to watch Wildlife documentaries.

Lately I've been trying to pare down my possesions to the more basic things.
Downgrade the car, sell off spare stuff, work fewer hours.

Get my life back.

This is a weird thread. My wife would kill me if we didn't own a TV.

I find that many people who don't watch TV love to talk about how they don't watch TV.

Back to the OP's questions, I use a 60hz Sharp Aquos 42" LCD TV from about 4 years ago. Still a great TV and I've no plans to upgrade any time soon. It seems that any brand name TV in this market is good enough for all but the most discriminating eye.

Wife decided we "needed" Sky HD so I came home one Saturday afternoon after playing golf and found a 50" Pioneer Kuro where our Sony had previously sat. Great telly, though.

Plasma, due to the better dynamic range.

edit: Almost forgot, we also have four tube-type TVs, ranging from two 13" Sonys to a 32" Magnavox. For low-res broadcasts, as well as watching our old VHS tapes, the picture on the good old tube looks better than it does on the 50" flat screen.

Now that we have the 50" flat screen, I'd like to trade my 27" Panasonic for a 19" or smaller Trinitron, just for watching old tapes. Ever try to get rid of a 27" TV? Goodwill won't pick it up, and I can't lift it to carry it to the car.

Thanks Rob, you are one of the few who actually address the OPs topic (well, that would be me!) in terms of actually USING a TV. Re: the old, big, heavy 27 " TV that is difficult to get rid of, I have given a lot of free stuff away on Craigslist, but not sure how active Craigs is in a "secret midwestern underground bunker":D

I'm amazed by all the folks here who don't even bother with TV! Myself included. Too bad the poll doesn't distinguish between CRT's and no TV at all, I'm curious what the link between the two might be.

I didn't put CRT's in the poll b/c I couldn't remember what they were called! Your point is a good one, and I would add my own surprise/curiosity: I presumed that photographers (pro or amateur), given their penchant for visual representation, would be more interested in the visual graphics around them in terms of TV. The responses so far suggest otherwise!

I chose none of the above, because I have a 42" DLP TV (rear projection). It's still HD, but IMO the image looks nicer than LCD/LED.. plus I only paid $100 for it from my friend.. heh, heh.. bonus, when something breaks I can fix it myself, which I have done.

Honestly though, photography and my love of it has nothing to do with my TV preferences.

We ditched the TV several years ago and purchased a 96" screen and projector. Having your friends over for movie night and cocktails is wonderful.

Gary;

Another thing to consider when deciding between Plasma or LED/LCD is your angle of view. You can view Plasmas at pretty extreme angles and still see a good picture whereas LED/LCD's wash out as you start to move away from dead center.

Good luck
Paul

... was never much into TV. But I do enjoy the occasional professional wrestling match! Big fan of Hulk Hogan in the 80's! I like Godzilla movies too!

We do not have a TV since about 8 years. We still watch a lot of junk  though (OK, some good movies too), but at times when we want to watch it and without advertisements.

So - not too many thoughts towards TV from my side. But should it come one day than I would like it to be OLED of some sort (may take a while). Even better a good projector and a screen - but the projectors have a long way to go to get some decent contrast and colors.

I haven't watched TV regularly for about 18 years, with the exception of the occasional stay in a hotel where they may have such thing.

One hour of TV is all it takes to remind me of why I loath TV.

I'll rent a movie occasionally and watch it on a nice flat screen Panasonic something or other.

Panasonic 47-inch +/- plasma. Pretty good, best of the lower-end plasmas when we bought it; but oversaturated and blocky colors to me. Really don't like how it handles B&W.

LOVE the refresh rate. My wife bought it to watch hockey in HD, the old TV wasn't nearly as good.

I have a 50 inch and a 60 inch plasma TV. My favorite use is for Blu-Ray and DVD movies and Star Trek reruns. I don't watch much TV myself, but others in my house do, and they love the snap and the color of the HD channels on the plasma screens.

I did find out the hard way, after getting rid of my 31 inch CRT, that my old VHS tapes look really crappy on a plasma screen. I've considered getting a CRT just so I can watch them again.
