When I was a kid, there was ALWAYS a flash attached to my dad's IIIf indoors. Kodachome 25 and the blue bulbs.... and if he didn't remember to lick the end of the bulb to ensure good electrical contact, we waited and then posed again...
For outdoor shots, he often shot one-handed, his left hand acting as a "shade" for the flare-prone Summitar (his only lens). He got pretty good at it - shaded the lens but kept his hand out of the frame, and still kept the IIIf steady. When I bought him a barn-door shade a couple of years ago, he was shocked... he had never seen a shade to fit the Summitar!
