No post processing. All are taken with ZM Sonnar 50mm on Zeiss Ikon. I am in love with the film now. Pity that it's not available in my country and I have to mail order it. I just love the wider dynamic range comparing to other slide film. This film is also very high resolution. I can blow it up very very large comparing to other film.

My other favorite film is Provia 400X, but it's very expensive and hard to find.

I'm learning to like Astia the more I use it. It doesn't sucker-punch you with color the way Velvia does.

I now understand why Astia is not really a Kodachrome replacement, but I'm learning to like it for its own merits.
 
Very nice subtle colours. I particularly like the last image.

I've got a roll of Astia in my freezer that I've been meaning to shoot for some time now. Time to get it out (if the weather cooperates).
 
Astia allows the viewer to concentrate on the subject matter in the photo rather than be overwhelmed by the color.

I simply want a color film where the colors are not noticed but simply are there. That is why I use Astia (or Sensia) for 100% of my color work.
 
Do you notice or think about the colors? I hope not. I hope you only see the subject of the photos. This is what Astia gets you.

Bob Michaels, what lens do you use? I notice that Zeiss ZM does add a bit of saturation. I am guessing yours is not Zeiss ZM.

Both of those were shot with a Mamiya 7. Both using the 80mm lens as I remember.

Color saturation is no more than a click and movement of the mouse within limits. This is just the way I see color.

FWIW: you can count the prongs holding the stones in the little girls belly button dangle or see the threads in the wacked out old guys patch that reads "USMC, mess with the best, die like the rest" in a big print.

These were from a series I did in 2005 of the different people who come to the Daytona Beach Boardwalk from January through July. The prints have been exhibited a few times. You can see the entire series at my website http://bobmichaels.org/boardwalk-intro.htm

Barrett: it was quite interesting shooting six hours a day, almost once a week, for six months in an area that is 25 meters wide by about 500 meters long. But there was a new group of people there every day. And the nature of those groups changed as well.

There were times I wondered why I decided to do this in 6x7 chrome as I stood close to the white beach sand at noon with no clouds in the sky (think f16 @ 1/500th with Astia)

But I as so glad I did that series when I did as there is little left of what once was the "World's Most Famous Beach".

You should have done Coney Island before Astroland closed. Or, did you?
 
Bob: I did (a little), and a friend and colleague did a lot more, probably better than I could. (Quite unrelated to my current exhibit, though.)

The delicacy of color in that series really caught my eye, yet, indeed, didn't get in the way of the work itself. Lots of good things happening in your series to my eyes. What else to say?

outstanding photos in this thread good tonality, rich dynamics, no color cast. tech obsession aside, nice portraiture as well.

I'm getting better at color films (and my glass is better), and I gave Astia 100F a try again last week in the Mont Blanc area. looking forward to processing. anybody knows about Kodach chromes that would give a bit warmer colors? I like Portra VC much better than Fuji negs.
 
There's something charming and familiar about Astia. How does it compare with E100G? I shoot most E100VS and RXP for slide film.
