Audi A5 versus Land Rover

I'd take the Audi of course. If I have to choose the M9 Titanium then, that would be ok too, although I don't like the design of it.

Umm. Thanks, but a Land Rover is a little to impractical where I live. And, an Audi is just not interesting for me, even though I admit that the technology of Audi these days is pretty amazing.

Let's see, for the city how about a Silver new looking MP and a restored SAAB 96. For the country, maybe the brassed MP and the Toyota Landcruiser from the 70's. (Although the Land Rover would be ok too. ;-))

I'd have the MP and the Audi. M9Ti would not be interesting to me unless I could sell it and travel the world on the proceeds, taking pictures on film.

I'd take the Audi/M9, sell it and found a Harley and a normal M9 and some nice holidays on the bike. 🙂

What about us Landcruiser drivers, more reliable than a Defender and more confortable for sure, at a little bit more money. M4's for us?

And real cameras have leaf shutters😛

Dangerous game. I'd back TP roller blinds if we're going to admit effete modern innovations.

Actually, I think FP shutters (?1880s) antedate Compounds and the like. As for Compurs... Well, you might as well have coil springs and a diesel.

Which one's the Land Rover? REAL Land Rovers have split screens and leaf springs.

agreed that's how to define 'REAL' Land Rovers, but those also belong in a world where you don't have to go very far or anywhere near fast! Here in the US most of them I run across are (relatively) newer and have that old aluminum or such Buick v8.

I'll take my Jeep, but I suppose it's a matter of what's the native pack-anaimal in each case. When it comes to hundreds of miles of paved road in a single stretch, my wife's minivan has either beat!

I prefer to alternate between the Jeep/Pentax67II/165/4LS and Buell/CL/Summicron-C 40 combinations. Sorry, no 'real' M for me at the moment.

Well, last year we did 7700 km in one trip, out of about 20,000 overall: France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Kosova, Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and back to France. Slowly! And a couple of months ago we crossed the Pyrenees from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. Even more slowly.

But we took Frances's little Seat to photokina this year (1800 km round trip).

And the BMW R100RS to Arles both years...

Cheers,

R.

Right you are Roger!

The fancy new ones seem to be mainly driven by soccer moms who never leave the pavement.
Here's a link to a photo of a friend in his 109. http://gallery.photo.net/photo/6589763-lg.jpg
He was just learning what the capabilities of the machine were and was happy I was along with my winch equipped series 3.

Here's another shot after the same friend tried to drive one of my earlier Rovers through a snow bank.
That's him with the shovel. http://gallery.photo.net/photo/5378228-lg.jpg

The series Rovers were great for getting into back country with a large format camera. Would go as far as logging roads permitted then shoulder a pack with Technika V and hike from there.
