Audi A5 versus Land Rover

Well, last year we did 7700 km: France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Kosva, Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and back to France. Slowly! And a couple of months ago we crossed the Pyrenees from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. Even more slowly.

But we took Frances's little Seat to photokina this year (1800 km round trip).

And the BMW R100RS to Arles both years...

Cheers,

R.

I think this is why photographers seem to gravitate towards LR's, cant go anywhere fast so able to see photos easier, and lots of space to pack lots of camera/lens options =)

Dear Jay,

Spot on!

Also: high viewpoint while driving (slowly...) so time and position to admire the scenery, AND (with a roof-rack and ladder) a superb high viewpoint some 3m/10 feet above the ground.

Cheers,

R.

Right you are Roger!

The fancy new ones seem to be mainly driven by soccer moms who never leave the pavement.
Here's a link to a photo of a friend in his 109. http://gallery.photo.net/photo/6589763-lg.jpg
He was just learning what the capabilities of the machine were and was happy I was along with my winch equipped series 3.

Here's another shot after the same friend tried to drive one of my earlier Rovers through a snow bank.
That's him with the shovel. http://gallery.photo.net/photo/5378228-lg.jpg

The series Rovers were great for getting into back country with a large format camera. Would go as far as logging roads permitted then shoulder a pack with Technika V and hike from there.

Glenn

Dear Glenn,

Wonderful pics of proper, God-Fearing Land Rovers. What else would God drive, come to think of it? Wouldn't even need parabolic springs for a smooth ride.

Earlier this year, though, I learned to stick only to small logging roads. Big ones have a nice deep mulch of bark, which, after you have broken through, means driving on well-rotted compost...

Cheers,

R.

Since Audi's are the symbol of Chinese corruption and repression, I will go with the LR, as long as its not that stupid Wayne Runie (SP?) edition.

The Audi & MP.
I would have thought the M9 Ti would go with LR as a lot of both those users don't like to get them dirty. And anyway don't people buy Leicas for good, solid, reliable German engineering?
- feeling a bit 'sarcy' today.
