You want to meet in New York in August? Everybody I knew when I lived in the Big Apple would move heaven and earth to get OUT of NYC that month. Mad dogs and Englishmen...nice town, though, and the traffic used to be better in
August 'cause most folks left town.
SS,
We pay extra to live here. LOL. I live in Madhattan, but I use to be a hillbilly from Brooklyn and Queens. To me the most hellish month to be in NYC is July. The smog, pollution and heat index sometimes is responsible for killing people.

This is a bump.
Also know that Fashion Night Out 2013 has been cancelled. Some reports suggest this was due to some violence that happened in SoHo last year.

Hi Cal,
I was searching for FNO 2013 maybe 2 weeks ago, I read some blogs from beginning of this year just suggesting simple business reasons. It didn't pay off to keep the shops open with all the staff on overtime. The few shoppers were just bargain hunters and not enough sales. Sad though, I was a fantastic shooting opportunity.
I was eager to take the MM for a fashion spin this year
Well, I live in the Mohave Desert and am in no place to complain about other folks' living preferences. In Manhattan, I once lived around the corner from Gracie Mansion and paid $237 a month for a small rent stabilized apartment. Are you telling me prices have gone up sine then? Far out.

Klaus,
The Monochrom with its high ISO flexibility was made for events like FNO. Things in SoHo did get ugly though and residents complained about thew invasion of crowds. I remember two years ago when cell phones didn't work because of too much demand.

SS,
Still planning my escape from New York, but somehow I remain trapped. LOL.
The only place worse on the East Coast than NYC in July is Newark. I always wondered why it seemed to be the coldest location in winter and the hottest in summer, but I found out it has these prevailing temperatures are because Newark is below sea level. Basically Newark is like a local northeast "Death Valley." Anyways now when I think of hell I think of Newark. LOL.

Jokes aside, I live by there now and I pay $1700 for a small apartment these days. :bang:

^^^ is why I'm thinking of moving to Kansas.
I could rent a 2br house with a garage and a yard for what I pay for a room here in jersey City.
There are still plenty of shooting opportunities that actually pay well and some of the papers there offer benefits.
Then there's the weather. The sweet, sweet, severe weather...

Fidel,
You are the devil. LOL. Do you have the 50/4.0? IMHO this is a killer lens with the 28mm FOV.

I live in the worst neighborhood in Madhattan: Spanish Harlem. Not far from my apartment is the best public hospital for stabbings and shootings because the doctors and staff have the most experience with severe trauma.
Times have changed, but I also live one block away from where Bruce Davidson shot the extreme poverty on East 100th Street.

Fidel,
Since you like the 28mm FOV the 50/4.0 is the lens for you. This glass is mucho sharp and contrasty. The only problem with shooting a Mamiya 6 is having to load film all the time. I found it to be a very fast shooter and it ate mucho film. LOL.

Worst neighborhood in Madhattan! Cute!
That's about on-par with the best neighborhood in Philly, the city that makes you acutely aware that you are alive.
On another note, I'm bringing my 21mm SC Skopar for Nikon mount rangefinders to the meetup. Its a shameless plug but I've got to sell it since I just bought another diesel Mercedes and haven't yet sold my current one.

Hahaha, Christian looks amused in that. I agree Jean-Marc's Rolleimarine was something to behold. I also thought Christians Linhof was fantastic. Some beautiful cameras at today's meetup. Overall a great meetup this month.

Yeah, that thing is cool. I totally want to take it out on a kayak or something. You can see in the photo that I have no interest in the M that is just sitting there.
