New York August NYC Meet-Up

Last Meet-Up was rainy/cloudy and Lorelie's was not crowded. The moody weather made the Meet-Up better, and we had more space without all the crowd noise.

We've gotten Lorelie's to accept separate checks though... so it is a decent meetup spot.

John,

The separate checks is a big deal because it eliminates responsibility.

The last Meet-Up was particularly good. In a way Lorelie's is like coming home because that is where it all started. Finding a venue like Puck Fair is rather remote.

I can't help but feel that somehow that If I wanted to go into fashion mode full tilt that there is a very real opportunity to learn. The bad part is that it is hard work and at heart I'm a lazy slacker. LOL.

The things we have to do to make money...

Cal

It's Loreley and not Lorelei.
The last time I was there in June I was able to get a separate check. All you have to do is ask for one.

This Wednesday I have a videotape interview and storage visit.

I'm feeling confident that I will make it through the next cull and will be among the ten artists that will be part of the group show at the Manhattan Ministorage on Spring Street in SoHo.

I also performed major maintenance on my Epson 7800, had to order a 700 ml bottle of ink ($200.00), and got rid of some nasty banding. I printed some 20x30's on 24x36 paper of recent night shots to see how they would hold up. It seems that the diminished IQ of the 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM becomes more exaggerated with the increase in size, but this makes the effect of the center sharpness with reduced resolution towards the corners and edges more pronounced. Anyways the dreaminess becomes a bigger element of the image when compared to the smaller 13x19.5's I usually print. The digital grain I don't seem to mind.

So I have a deadline to get these new prints into my storage unit by this Sunday. The Pokeman-Go shots I will also attempt to print big.

Cal

Any interest in doing an ICP visit before or curtailing the Meet-Up a little early and going to see that ICP show on media.

Cal

Wow,

20x30 kinda exaggerates the rendering/character of the 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM. Pretty much wide open only the center is sharp and IQ falls off towards the edges and in the corners.

Somehow I don't object to the added dreaminess in night shots, but in day shots I would likely deem it bad.

All the above is in respect to the Pokeman-Go shots that I had printed 13x19.5 earlier.

I kinda knew that the man reading the newspaper centered among the tall collums would work well with the rendering, but these other images do not necessarily favor the retro rendering.

Also know that more recently I revisited that Poke-Stop, but it was not the same level of intensity that I first encountered. Oh-well.

Cal

I say ICP pre-meetup.

John,

If we meet-up at 11:00 AM at ICP it allows for almost 2 hours to see the show. No need to curtail the fun at the Meet-Up.

Also this allows flexibility for others to make a choice.

Anyways life has been so busy lately. Yesterday met a super model who turned into a designer to pick up some samples (clothing). My life is crazier than normal.

What's with all the 6 trains? No air conditioning? Why all like ovens? Is it only the 6 trains?

Cal

I think the air conditioning is on but low. Some cars are worse than others. It sucks.

11am works.

John,

By the time I get downtown I am fully cooked. One train that I did not get on seemed like they had the heat on. I was basting other people with my sweat inadvertantly.

Anyways the subway is ruder than normal. ***.

I think that line and the 4,5 is three of the worst lines of New York, a lot of
extra heavy use and the trains can't hold up to the abuse, now if and when
the 2nd ave. subway get's done it should be better but till then.

Bob,

It is said that more people ride the 6 Train every day than the entire Washington DC mass transit system.

I have seen a little old woman repeatedly punch this guy that tried to body slam himself into an already full car. Some guys made sure that this guy did not get a chance to defend himself and were holding the car doors so the train could not move. Eventually someone grabbed the little old lady and pulled her into the car. I stood close by waiting to see if further street justice was needed.

At I saw two big guys get off at 67th Street to settle up and fight on the platform. Neither guy was any good at street fighting. To me it was like watching two girls fight because neither one had any power to their punches.

On a lighter note I have also seen how a train was being delayed because even though these two women were technically inside the car when the doors sounded bing-bing and tried to close but were obstructed by the bubble in the two women's butts. Bing-Bing and then these butts would kinda get pinched as the car doors tried to close repeatedly. LOL. I was on the platform with another friend named Mike waiting for the next train.

Hmmm, outdated reference Cal... there are plenty of women who will kick your ass!

Regarding the 4,5,6 line... I travel it every day from 77th to Fulton... and I don't see it as being any better or worse than any other Manhattan line. If anything, it seems to be on time more so than not.

Nope 1,2 and 3 are better, cooler car's pretty much on time and not
as crowded.
