Where did July go?

I will ask that the August Meet-Up not be in the beginning of the month, but don't forget Labor Day in the beginning of September.

Today is phase two of the news segment that will be broadcast nationally during primetime. At 7:30 AM hair and make-up comes to my apartment and at 10:00 the driver will come to take "Maggie" to the television studio.

This footage will be used with the other footage from the ENG team that was shot in Tribeca last month.

It seems that some video for British Airways was released yesterday that features Maggie roaming around NYC telling people some of her favorite places in NYC. It seems this will be played on British Airway flights with other people featuring other cities that British Airways also flies to.

Separately a courier earlier this week picked up twenty items that Maggie would pack for a trip. The idea of this campaign it to photograph the collection to tell a narrative that describes the owner's identity. The clothing and other items were returned within the same day by courier. This is also for British Airways. Maggie was told that her collection photographed strong and was one of the better shoots.

Maggie now has 225K followers. The British Airways campaigns should be seen by millions of people, as with the prime time news broadcast.

I did notice Vogue Spain rolling out her shoot in Madrid, which was a couple months ago now I think.

Bet on how July has been flying out. I met up with the friend who will pursue a PhD in Columbia and he's flying out August 1st. But he'll have a week holiday with the family in NYC prior to beginning his academic track.

We're well past the half of year. August in [my part of] Spain kinda sucks. Hot, humid, scorching sun, and crowded (living on a holiday town). Ironically I will be working as bankster on the quiet mountain villages where my family was from, and as rural it is, unpopulated because of employment hardships.
I will enjoy the change of scenery for cycling and shooting! Plus the work will be much more slacking compared to the crazy dead center of a large city.

Jorde,

I forgot about Vogue Espania. The release started earlier this week and they are putting up one look a day for seven looks. A few more looks are still to come.

Note the time delay from when this campaign was shot.

As far as the markets go I think we are pretty much in a bubble. Generally when banks start raising rates they lead to recessions, and historically it is not so easy to raise rates. I think things are kinda crazy right now, and in September comes the debt crisis and the unwinding of quantitative easing. Compound this by an ineffective government.

"Look out below," I say.

Let's go with the 20th. 13th is Dominican day parade. Good shooting opportunity

Pro-Mone,

The 20th it tis.

Don't get shot. Seems like this parade is a shooting opportunity for people with hand guns.

Don't become a shooting opportunity. LOL. Am I confusing this parade with another one in Brooklyn?

Yes. Your thinking of the West Indian day parade. This one's in Manhatten and is very tame compared to that. And I think the part about the parade not being safe (the westindian day parade) is extremely racist and perpetuated but the news media. Any violence (if at all) happens before the parade begins in the early morning hours or after, both when people are drunk. There's a heavy police presence and I've never felt unsafe going to it or seen anything remotely resembling a problem. Just people eating goodfood and having a goodtime

Pro-Mone,

I don't disagree that the media is not what it use to be, but I think the pattern of violence, meaning shootings, associated with the West Indian Parade is not something they (the media) invented.

Sadly there is a pattern/probability of shootings.

Are you saying these shootings and the West Indian Parade are separate events that just happen in close proximity and are connected to put a racist spin on an otherwise peaceful event? Are you saying there is a statistical coincidence?

I love the W Indian parade. Loads of fun . And best nyc photo op of the year imho. It's the only time I still shoot color and digital. A couple years ago my camera got covered with paint and paint powder. Never felt unsafe.

Philippe,

No doubt that it is a great event. It is one of the grandest and one of the bigger parades. A great photo op. A very colorful parade for sure for color photography.

Sadly it has been associated with gun violence.

I just got the word from "Maggie" via an E-mail that she rocked the interview.

If you have noticed that here following jumped from 100K to 200K in a flash and pretty much stabilized at 225K presently. This new exposure to millions has a lot of potential for a big lift.

Also the British Airways video and other campaign will also be seen by millions.

Lol. I don't think there's a statistical significance (or if anyone has ever done any statistics on that parade vs other parades). All I'm saying is that no one has been shot at the parade in the last 5 years

what network is Maggie going to be on ?

MFM,

I'll post the Network and date it will be aired when I can. I can tell you it is one of the big three networks.

In the news business a segment like this is considered an "Evergreen," meaning it can run at anytime because it is not news timely and is considered a feature.

I recently saw the segment on Alzheimer's disease for the second time. Also I saw the profile on the actor who played Walter White on "Breaking Bad" for the second time.

My guess is that "Maggie's" segment will be along the lines of a profile. Some of my photography will be featured as "B" roll, and you might actually see me doing my street/runway shooting in Tribeca and chimping my Leica SL with huge 50 Lux-SL with Maggie, AKA Lyn (her real name).

This should bump her number of followers big time.

Pro-Mone,

Perhaps I have "Old-Timer's Disease." At almost 60 my memory is pretty bad, but I'm not sure the shootings are spaced so far back and I kinda remember where it happened two years in a row.

A funny story is I went down to drop off a camera or lens (I forgot. LOL) at Nippon Photo Clinic near the Flatiron Building. Over the years I had been there so many times for various repairs, but this time the location seemed vague and confusing, I became disoriented, and panic set in.

You hear of stories where people leave their house and disappear. We cronically see all those missing people posters, and then there are all those news stories about missing people. So I begin to wonder, "Is this it?" I ask myself, "And now am I going to find my way home?"

So when I got home I dug though my files and got a receipt from Nippon, and called the number. It was after five, but someone answered the phone, and I asked if they had moved.

Evidently they relocated because their rent got increased, and they moved to their present address on West 39th Street, but for a while I thought I lost my mind. LOL.

Pro-Mone,

The two incidents I remember actually happened on September first 2014 and September 5th 2016, a little more than two years apart, but there was a shooting in 2015 when Carey Gabay, a 43 year old lawyer who had worked with Gov. Cuomo was shot in the head during J'ouvert festivities. So we are talking three consecutive years of shootings where two of the three were centered around J'ouvert celebrations.

In the most recent shooting in 2016 actually took place during the J'ouvert ahead of the parade. We are talking 2014, 2015, and 2016 and not five years ago.

Below is from CBS/AP dated September 5, 2016:

"A male in his late teens or early 20's was shot in the chest around 3:50 AM... he died."

"A 66-year old woman was hurt while dodging bullets at the same location," "a 72-year-old woman was shot in the arm,"

"About 25 minutes later, a 22-year-old was shot in the head just a block away, police said. She died at a hospital."

"Another man in his 20's who was shot and injured is reportedly now being treated in stable condition."

"A woman was also stabbed in the area..."

"Earlier the same morning, a Bronx man, Denentro Josiah was stabbed to death during festivities."

"In 2014, a man was fatally shot and two people wounded during celebration."
