average price for the S2?

focusing wheel is a little bit stiff between 6 and 3 feet range and the lens a little shaking at the front otherwise seems fine, shutter works, curtain is in good condition...

Okay: from the description, try this.

1) LENS: There is a retaining ring on the back of the lens that holds it into the mount. If it is loose, the lens will be a little wobbly. One of my F1.4's was like this. SImple tightening of the ring fixed it up.

2) Focus stiff: The "proper" solution is to remove the focus mount and clean with Gas. I did that on one S2 that was really bad. On my others that were a "little Stiff", I took off the lens and back, set the shutter to "T" to keep the curtains open, and I squirted a little Ronsonol (lighter fluid) into the back of the helical. Work the focus and Dab up the now dirty lighter fluid with a Q-Tip. Worth a try before removing the helical.

hi Brian i've just tightened the ring on the back and the lens is ok now, i'll do the lighter fluid thing tomorrow, i think it'll be enough cause it's better now after working the wheel several times. this is a great camera, all the years and still works... 😀

Congrats on your new camera and I am sure that you will get lots of pleasure from using it. As another S2 user I am sure of that.

also the focusing wheel is heavier towards to infinity, is this normal? and i hardly see the rangefinder view, is this normal too? or this is because i'm new to rangefinders? 😱 😱

The rangefinder patch should be bright and easy to see, it may have faded over the years.

My really bad S2 required flood cleaning in gasoline. I removed it, soaked the helical, re-assembled. Smooth as butter after that. Seven screws and its out, but watch those shims under the screws of the helical. Small, and a real pain to replace.

Edit: I don't type fast enough. Looking good. 😎

That's some hard light to work with there. Have you seen this page http://www.fredparker.com/ultexp1.htm ? I found it very helpfull in learning how to estimate lighting much better.
