Military surplus bags and belt pouches. Most recently a cool ammo bag . . .

There are quite a number of countries in the world where you don't want to be seen with military equipment around your waist, especially not with 'cool' ammo bags...

I doubt a dusty old gasmask bag, or gun powder saturated ammo sack will get you in any trouble, anywhere.

The polish on your penny loafers is more likely to trigger an incident.

Cal, 2.3K$ is that a typo? Wowza!

I have 3 A&A ACAM-7100 camera bags; a Crumpler 6 million dollar camera bag; and 2 F-Stop backpacks that I use when traveling. The larger model for when I am flying and can fit camera gear and baggage for extended trips. A smaller model for local overnight road trips or when out for the day on a walkabout where I may want to carry some extra clothing and snacks depending on the weather and location.

The crumpled bag was the least expensive, about $70 that I bought 4-5 years ago. I was gifted one of the A&A bags and bought the other two in the last 3 to 4 years when they could be found for about $150.00. The larger F-Stop bag I bought used from an individual who had been given the bag to test and after providing the vendor feedback sold me the backpack at a great price. The Guru F-stop bag with a medium ICU was about $230.00.

No typo. It is a really nice bag and is really a bookbag. Like wearing a Rolex this bag kinda becomes part of you. Interesting to note that this bag is kinda understated and does not stand out as a luxury good. I have no problems wearing it and using it on my excursions into the Bronx.

I figure in another decade of use the cost really becomes nothing. I also like that I have not seen another bag like mine "in the wild" meaning on the street. Not an expensive bag when compared to say a Leica Monochrom and 50 Lux ASPH that is often carried inside.

Funny thing is that fashionistas recognize my luxury bag right away, even though I generally dress down with my typical sloppy look. LOL.

so far the 50-101 and 102 to 200 dollar groups are in the lead...

Joe,

I figured my Louie would skew the results. You are not the only person who is a bit crazy when it comes to bags. LOL.

POSTSCRIPT: Joe, I couldn't help but vote. I will likely remain the only person who voted in my catagory.

I went for the 50 to 101 - an average.

I have a LowePro Nova 1 AW that I got for $3 at a flea market - had never been used. Also a couple of Tamracs in the $200 range, and a handful of vintage rangefinder bags cheap off the Bay, so yes, an average.

My two Bellingham I bought about 17years ago still stays better and looks nearly unused .

So I am glad I paid £200- £300 and they protect all my camera gears well.

I started with lunch bags. Later I was trying $1-20 camera bags and they are good ... as storage bags. One $10 I have from camera store in Markham. Made like classic old camera bag. In terms of shape. It will take 5DC with 50L flash and M4-2.
Big green one.

I have Domke satchel which was on deep discount previous year at BH, just by same time my old every day camera, laptop, tools and docs bag was broken. Got it under $100.

And earlier this year at Winners I bumped into really good camera bag, it was $16 new, while in regular store it is above $50. It takes gripped 500D with 70-200F4L, Smena-8M, M4-2 with 50/2, films and meter. All of it, but size of this bag is small...
Tamrac something.

I put 20 to 50 but the last couple that I've gotten were a lot more. I've fallen in love with the Doctor style bag. Zip it open and everything is there to be had. They don't come as cheap as some of my other bags.

Until last year, ah'd never owned a dedicated camera bag. When ah got my Zenit EM ( in the 70s ), it came with a thick leather case which could probably have stopped a bullet.

This was reinforced by not one but two plastic bags. A Marks+Spencer, old skool, thick plastic bag with string handles and a canvas, Christmas special. This was used tae carry the camera tae parties etc. over the festive season. When that was over the M+S bag was slipped back on the outside. These bags lasted me around 15 years, even with the addition of my Minolta 8000i + lenses. Minolta still looks OK after over 30 years of mistreatment...

Then last year ah bought a used camera + 2 lenses and when it arrived there was a camera backpack included (which was not mentioned in the sale). It's a Samsonite Travel Partner, a beautifully made, small backpack, cordura/nylon and webbing as good as my rucsack - which can hold my a700 and either XD7/8000I or
7000AF + 3 lenses.

Can even wear it on my bike...bonus. So , my vote is - costs nothing so ah'll use it...

PS the a700 was bought used, that came with a Lowepro camera pouch which was usually bursting at the seams with stuff.

PPS Zero should have been an option in the poll...

love to see some pics of the doctor style bags...

Some are not so great, it's late and I'm old.

A cheap ebay score, it's vinyl but solid. Has M9, XP1, 5 lenses for the M9 and 3 for the Fuji.

The Tank. Dr Petrol. Canon 6D with a slew of lenses, the flash and all the associated gear. Weighs a ton but gets all the goodies to the show. And has a light to see at night.

A little better shot.

thanks!!!

i love doctor bags...but i have never bought one, think i'm afraid of starting another obsession that i cannot afford.
plus, it's hard to find smaller bags...yours look great!

I ended up with $300 bags like Billingham and Filson. Billy is great for film, mirrorless, or medium format. I can have all three in if I want to.

Last three bags:
Domke F2 used on eBay - $50 (great for shooting with Leica AND Rolleiflex)
Domke F-5XB new on Amazon - $65 (great for out shooting with a second M2 body and a spare lens or two)
Pelican 1500 new on Amazon - $100 (secure dry storage at home)

I tend not to buy a lot of bags regularly but my most recent acquisition was my most expensive. I wanted a large, roomy, shoulder bag to accommodate Nikon F6 (or D800) + 14-24 f2.8, 28-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 or a Hassy 503cx + 3/4 lenses ranging from 50mm to 120mm. It also needs to hold film / cards, cleaning stuff, a few filters, batteries. I went for a Billingham Hardley Pro Large (no the "Pro" or the "Large" but a relatively new combination of the two). It's fantastic and although it gets heavy with a full load, it's very comfortable. £280 - certainly not cheap but it will last me for many years....

Favourite is a black Billingham L2 bought secondhand for £50, really useful and comfortable on the shoulder. There are a couple of Lowepro ones that I use as storage and a great little Hedgren shoulder bag which has a padded insert put in and can hold the xpro1 with 18-55 and 55-200 lenses or the D7000 with 18-200 lens if I'm feeling digital.

Been using my first proper bag, a Tenba Messenger DNA 8, for slightly more than a month now. It feels a little cramped but still has room for the essentials so I ain't complaining. Well not yet at least.
