On another forum which I frequent, the members are awarded virtual accolades, clasps, medals, etc. depending on the number of posts. For example, someone with about 7,000 posts gets the Holy smoking Keyboard! award. Have the mods ever thought of doing something similar on this forum? Just wondering.

Seems like I would call those more badges, or game-wise 'achievements'.

Awards seems to denote some actual work involved. They seem somewhat pointless, I'd rather see little icons given by other members for contributions, sort of like over on mu-43 you can rate a person's post as informative, agree, etc.

i have over 40,000 posts and no one has ever seemed all that impressed...

IF anything, in times of rants and such I noticed on other boards, the post count is often used as an attack against you. As if you have no life outside the forums or something *shrug*. (Duration of membership never seems to be factored in).

Most of the high-post-count members are or were moderators. They racked up the numbers because it was part of the job.

Do you *want* to encourage us to spout more crap? Because we will, you know; and everyone will suffer.

Inane...

...Rewarding quantity over quality, then? 🙄

Since I do some computer programming, in particular in the Perl language, I visit the site perlmonks.com. On that site, users can give any post a +1 or a -1 vote. They do the same thing on stackexchange.com. When someone posts advice, this allows readers to know whether other agree based on the votes the post received. These ratings are also part of the ranking of members. You can see it in their profile.

The Perl Monks also give users points for voting, for posting, and for visiting the site. Readers can get a sense of the credibility of others based on the points they've accumulated, and their ranking. I have a rank of Friar there, which kind of makes me Friar Dyer. I find this system useful and it encourages users to participate in the site.

If you're going to devise a recognition system do it for photographs in the gallery not for chatter in the forum. Use it to encourage making better photos. Recognizing someone for thousands of posts seems very millennial. We all get a participation trophy. Base it on posting new photos activity, views and ratings on the views.
