B&W File Print Resolution

I have been printing on the first generation Canon Pro9500. All of my prints have been color and most to 13"x18" size. I am about to go back to a b&w film workflow. I'm starting with my old scanner it will provide scanned resolution of approximately 2550 x 3825. With simple sharpening (no up-res of the file) and printing to fine arts standards, what b&w print size maximum does this resolution allow?

About 8x13 assuming you print at 300 DPI. One third bigger if you can get a good print at 200. Depends on the particular image and your printer.

That is pretty much what I'm asking. I was printing at 300dpi in color, but it seems to me that color dithering requires a higher resolution for the same look when compared to B&W. I don't know if this is true, but it is what I'm asking.

No, the resolution should be the same, I habitually print at 360 dpi as I use an Epson printer, and going beyond this is redundant. You will find that if anything B&W likes a higher resolution than colour in order to look good, precisely, because there is no colour to distract you from the appreciation of the graphics.

Then I'll need a better scanner. I'll have to spring for the Nikon 9000ED since I also have 6x7. I better get to selling a few camera systems to foot the bill..thanks.
