B1 C filter, where and when is it used?

I found an old Tiffen B1 C filter, I am sure it is a colour film correction filter but I am wondering when is it used, and for what type of colour film and what type of light?

Are you sure it's a B and not an 8?

You are right, Roger, it is an 8 and not a B, as the white marking paint has worn off a bit at the start and I was reading it as B1 instead of 81.

So I presume this filter is used to make light look a little warmer on colour film?

Like it said above in the Tiffen literature, I use an 81C with slide film on overcast cloudy days.

That would have been ideal for the past 5 months here in the land of Canuck frozen mapleleaf and little sunshine. Now to get some slide film, as the cassette of unused 40 year old Kodakchrome 25 in my freezer is not of any photographic use.
