Today, when the UPS man came, my heart leaped! He had with my silver Leica M6TTL body, coming back from refurbishing in Leica NJ. In a separate box came my Leica-meter MR, completely spiffied up and recalibrated by Quality Light Metric.

So... today was a good day.

And tomorrow, I'll return to being a two-fisted shooter again! :)

That, of course, means the cameras go in their bag and I'm back to work. But I'll be smiling all day long! :p

Just wanted to share. Thanks for bearing with me!

Congrats good to hear, much healthier than two-fisted drinking ;)

francisco, what can you tell me about quality light metric?

A happy day for sure, Francisco... Must be dreaming of taking it out for a test run... :)

Good memory, Joe!

Yep, that's the reason the Leica went to the shop. After visiting DAG's THREE times, I checked with Dave Elwell, from Leica NJ, and he said they could fix it by refurbishing the camera. So, I sent it away.

Regarding Quality Light Metrics: it was very highly recommended by people in PN... and, compared to camera fixing, their work is very inexpensive. And they're fast! Now... I really have no way to test the meter unless I put it on top of an M2 or M3, but, according to George, it's now a spiffy, clean and calibrated gizmo.

First, you call them (telephone (323) 467-2265) to "warn" them about the shipping. Or to consult them about it. The person you want to talk to is George Milton (sp?). Then, you ship the meter to QLM, 7095 Hollywood Boulevard, Suite 550, Hollywood CA 90028, along with a letter detailing the problem and your contact information. George will call you to give you an estimate, and, upon your approval, he'll ship it back to you via UPS. I shipped my meter last week. This Monday 3/21 I got George's call, and when I greenlighted his estimate ($103), he said "I'll fix it and it'll be shipped back tomorrow."

So, he shipped it on Tuesday and the meter came in on Friday.

Unbeknownst to me, that day, my silver Leica (I'm strangely attached to it; it was my first Leica! :) ) was shipped on Tuesday too! When I called them on Thursday to inquire if they had done the job, Rob looked up the order number and said "That camera was shipped on Tuesday so you should be getting it soon."

And it also came within a nice velvet pouch. I'll probably use it for film, 'cuz it's too fuzzy to carry a camera body in unless it's wrapped in a coquettish plastic bag with the word LEICA stamped on it.

I seriously hope they don't go out of business...

Alright... time to stick my nose to the grindstone again. My book's Chapter 4 (out of 6) awaits for revision! But even though today's a grey day and can't go for a shooting test, heck, I'm a happy man. My wife's probably wondering what's behind my perky mood today...

...as francisco walks quietly across the room, his lovely wife sits and wonders, what brings that little smile to my husband's face?

does he have a mistress? could it be...?

the sad answer is yes, a german beauty as hard as steel, leica is her name...

My chrome M6 is sitting quietly next to me here, I understand your excitement Francisco. Simple beauties they are.

The afternoon turned out to be a sunny affair... and with my brains turned to mush after some solid hours of typing, editing and typing again, I just said "To h!#$ with it!", grabbed my new-found lovely silver Leica and went out to burn some film.

Now... I'm doing Scala because I won't have to pay for developing (it's via pre-paid mailer). Besides, the sunny conditions replicate those under which the leak was visible. This, my dear fellows, is a tough test. But I won't have the results until, say, some 10 days.

Or, if I cheat by burning another roll of other kind of film, I might have something sooner.

At least I got some work done. Now. it's time to tend to my other camera... I don't want to send that one to the shop too! :(

I think it's entirely understandable that on a sunny day on Easter weekend that photography should -temporarily- take precedence over rewriting chapter 4!
