Backyard bird watching/photographing?

Yeah, we always have a lot in the neighborhood. This is a sharp-shinned adult Hawk about 14" tall. There is a larger Cooper's Hawk around the yard too.

The most striking feature is...those RED EYES!!!!

You might want to check with your County Extension Office. They should be able to tell you how to make your area less attractive to hawks, and also if any in your area are protected (many are or at least used to be).

Call us crazy for setting up this crow feeder, but our food waste into the garbage is way
down. Peter

Hi Dave - have you considered digiscoping, i.e., using a spotting scope as a telephoto lens? Much cheaper, and while the images may not be good enough for large prints, they're certainly decent enough for online jpegs.

Good luck!

Ha! I would love it! The X1 fits those quite nicely. Unfortunately I haven't worked since 2008 and medical bells are astronomical, so luxury items are definitely not affordable, ever again. And those danged birds are too skittish for me to sneak up on them!!:bang:

But we have fun watching out the window. The hawks are the most excitement so far.
