bad bad bad

The M3 is a very nice camera, Brett, you won't regret it. You've got LTM lenses to use on it (with an adaptor), right? All you'll need eventually is a 50mm Summicron (ANY version) or a modern 2.8 Elmar and you'll be set. It doesn't get much/any better than that in 35mm! Congrats! You have my full emotional support.

thanks, Frank.. I've got a Jupiter 3, which I'm hoping will mate well.. if not, I guess I'll know where to shop

You'll be getting the M3 next week I suppose. How are you ever going to be able to endure the wait? (tease, tease) Seriously, I'd be interested in hearing your impressions on it once you get it. It's interesting that some folks go nuts over Leica (and many consider the M3 to be the creme de la creme of Leica) and others just don't give a care.

Russian glass on a bessa is one thing. Leica on Leica.. ist ser schöne.

I would imagine you know this in your heart. Soon you will know it in your wallet.

I hope you don't plan on retiring soon.

I have the "lowly" 50mm Summicron 3rd version and the results I see when printing negs from this lens are significantly better than anything I've seen, short of medium format.

1st: collapsible
2nd: rigid/ dual range
3rd: black
4th: penultimate, black, focus tab
5th: latest version, optically same as 4th but no focus tab

So, Brett... you finally did it! 😀 Good for you! Now you'll see what it is to handle an artistic tool.

I like my M3 too much... and that's why I use it very carefully. 🙂

.....and I've lusted after an MP for about as long as they've existed.. but I think it's safe to say those are safe from my grubby hands for a long time as I have no rich relatives on their deathbed, or anywhere else
Forget about the MP. You're getting probably the best Leica M ever made. All you need now is an M2. 😀

You don't even have to get a Cron. I have a 50 Cron, but I like my Elmar 50 and my two Summaron 35s just as much. Leica must be experienced in its totality in order to be fully appreciated.

The antepenultimate Cron is "lowly?" 🙂

i hope my wife never gets to hold a leica...
i hope i never get to hold a leica...

but my greatest fear is the day when my son comes up to me and says "Daddy, I want a Leica."

Ah, growing up I see.

Yet again, the famous quote...."Everyone NEEDS an M3"

Congratulations.

Now, keep that GAS geared up for another week or so. What is this about the J3?

Find yourself a Summicron or Elmar. Then, you can lie to us and say you are done buying equipment. 😀

Yep, right after the last purchase the first reaction is denial... like saying "This is the last lens I buy, I have all I need/want."

And then... another attack on the credit line.

As for me... I am done. I have all I need/want! 🙂

i should show this thread to my wife. she would be in stitches laughing. my lowly Minolta and Yashica purchases pale by comparison. Thanks for helping me keep it all in perspective. And good luck with the M3.

You will find that the incompatibility between the Russian 52.3mm standard and the Leica 51.6mm standard will drive you crazy trying to focus that extremely-precise long baselength M3.
that's what I'm afraid of, but I'll have to find out for myself.. thanks for the words of consolation/congratulations everyone 🙂

Yep. Your gonna have to get some Leitz glass. A J-3 isn't the best product of the FSU. Even a J8 would likely give you better results.

well, I've got a J8, also.. and an Industar 61/LD, too.. but that's it for my LTM glass

Actually, that Industar may well be the nicest for use on the M-3. It's a bit slower so less problem with the registration and it's got a very nice ... let's say, unique look of its own. I'd actually give that one a try first.

Don't forget you need an LTM-M adaptor!
