Bad Picture or brilliant HCB-moment?

The concept of the HCB decisive moment is there, but like all the others have said the photo would benefit from getting closer and/or using a 50 lens and/or cropping a bit.

A friend of mine took lessons in photographic composition and her instructor always advised that once you compose you should move a few steps "into" the picture, as most people have the tendency to stay "out" of it, as it were. I have found this to be really sound advice.

This is good advice - I tend to be too far back much of the time. I think I'll try to keep this in mind, and not be timid.

As for the photo - I like it. I agree that it might be cropped a little with the arm off center, but as is it has a mysterious quality. 😎
