We've got lots of lovely snow here in the UK, it happens that I have my D200 with me today. The M6TTL is at home, quite a few miles away. I have no hesitation in taking the Nikon (any of them) out in this weather. They're happy to stay out longer than I can.
What are peoples views on RF's in this weather?
I wish I did have it so I could use some Delta 100 for great shots.

We had a snowstorm here last week. I was in and out of the blizzard for most of the day. M6 + 35mm Summicron IV, worked like a charm. Had little problems with the film advance lever later (probably oil related issue) but it worked out just fine after little exercise.

I'm not hesitating to take it wih me wherever I need to. And that's the whole point for me to get Leica. It can take more than I can in the winter.

I never had problems with either Nikon F's or Leica M's in any weather I could walk around in. Both these cameras have been to the South Pole and to the top of Everest and most places in between. For extreme rain, there was always the Nikonos.

Thanks guys. Assuming I can get home, I shall take the M6TTL out in the next few days to get some 'real' black & white images. I'm out of colour tranny film and the mail is having serious issues (again) with the weather. It's been ordered. Just a case of when....

I have used my Yashica TL Super and Fujica ST 901 in some pretty miserable weather, from freezing and snow, to hard rain. No problems. However, I didn't set them out to see how watertight they were. I kept them covered as much as possible, under a coat or wide brimmed hat, wiped them when needed, etc. I think most cameras will work (and continue to work) if treated carefully.

Mind you, I never had to come back with a photo, no matter what happened to my cameras, so I think I probably missed some shots due to excess care, needed or not.

something for the leica nerds

Found this interview with Ragnar Axelsson, an Icelandic photographer who also uses Leica among other cameras.

How did the Leicas perform during what seems to be quite extreme weather conditions?
Ragnar: In the colder climates like in Greenland it was the only camera that still worked perfectly through the cold without getting stuck.
...
The cold got down to -40 Celcius (-40 Fahrenheit).
