ok so I am the proud recipient of some extra kind people in a shop who have given me an R-D1 for 20% of its retail price. My initial thoughts were to rip it up and use it for parts but upon further investigation the camera seems to work pretty well.
The damage occurred when the person who was using it took it to a sports even and was run into by one of the players...
The physical damage equates to a considerable "out of whack" on the North South axis of the range finder. The eye piece is severly squashed. The wind arm has some fragmentation and the Shutter dial lock button has lost all of its fuctionality which doesnt bother me at all, as Id rather not have that lock there at all.
The camera focusses well, framelines are good, all digital functions are perfect, and the dials are also perfect. I dont care too much for the fact that its now cosmetically challenged, all I want is to know if its possible to aquire another eyepiece, and replace the wind arm plastic with another peice.
My understanding is that the camera was sent back to Epson and they said they wouldnt touch it at all -probably because its out of warantee and a shop demo item, and would represent to Epson a non economical repair.
I just find it hard to believe that this thing is not entirely repairable.

WOW! Thanks LCT. This is good info. Has anyone tried to order any of these parts? It seems the parts available are all the "extra" non essentials to attach to the main body, but it is great to see this. Apparently the parts suppliers in the US don't support this camera at all while the German and other European parts suppliers do. Haven't check into the Japanese parts suppliers yet...

Again, thanks,

Josh

Good info!

Does anyone know if there are any workshops I can actually send it to and see what needs to be done or in fact to actually get something done, Id get my own guys to do it but I fear they will say it has to go back to Epson who have apparently already said they wouldnt touch it...

Well well well, I gave it to one of my techs and he had the thinge in perfect working order in 5 minutes. Very interesting that Epson said no twice. I still need a wind arm and a eyepiece. Anyone got any suggestions as to where to find one in the US?

is it just the glass of the eyepiece that's broken? If the screw thread is intact, you can use one from the Nikon FM/FE range.
