Big deal....My fully loaded LowePro backpack that I used for zoo photography weighs 35 pounds-plus the 12 pound weight of the Bogen 3040 tripod I use.
please don't misunderstand me...i'm not saying that 7 pounds is heavy...i'm saying that my kit weighs 7 pounds!

7 pounds, thats over 3kg. I consider this heavy for carrying it around the whole day in a city.

13.5lb is the weight of my backpack at the moment. Shen hao 4x5, four double dark slides, two lenses, two filters and meter.
I think the point about weight only becomes a big problem (besides injury) if you don't have a plan for the day. So don't carry around everything you own just on the off chance you think of something to do with it. A single body and lens is perfectly adequate if you know what you want, gear increases if you have doubts. And while it is possible that you find another lens would have been better, more often photographers end up kicking themselves for not adapting the situation to what they have with them rather than missing a vital piece of kit.

Hi,
When my wife and I go out touring we take the same make and model phone and camera each. That way we need only take one charger and one spare battery etc, etc. And for touristy snapshots there's lots of good quality P&S's...

What kind of bag is it? How's the strap(s)? How does the bag sit when walking? and so on.

No. Not too much.

too much?
No, no considering my carry on camera bag was 22 kilos for a couple of trips
For day to day walks, 7 pounds is quite light, when I used to carry one 10 pound camera around Toronto for afternoon walks

7 pounds? That's a single camera, 1 lens and leaving the lightmeter and extra film at home.
