We intended to stopover on the way to Melbourne for a couple of days.
We stayed for a month in Bali. Another time for Melbourne.

We did not stay on the Southern beaches. We made cursory visits to popular
tourist places.

We traveled the island extensively, except the tourist beach resorts.

We believe, to know a country one has to try to understand, cursorily even,
that which the local people hold dear. We have found, invariably, that it is
their faith . At least in most instances and in most places we have visited.

So, with considerable PS license, in this thread..some impressions of Bali
and its people.

What the f*ck..right. Bear with me, please.

I have had my meds this morning. This is a part of Bali. An important
part. At least for us.

Hope you travel with us.

We, my wife and I, spend a lot of time in trying to study the small things.

Like I said, try to understand the culture. The small things.

Spend some time. Leaves, flowers, rice, basket..the way they are put
together. Their significance, if any.

Take the time to appreciate the beauty in small things. Daily, mundane
things.

What's in a jar? I saw people, visitors, glance at it and on to other things.

Spend some time. View the surrounds. The context..

I asked a similar question, in some other forum that I displayed these
images.

What is in a jar in Bali?. Beauty, yes. Craftmanship, yes. But something
more. Much more. Much important.

What's in a jar in Bali?

What do you want to be in a jar in Bali? Aspirations, dreams, beliefs, visions
prayers.

Each of us finds something different in the jar. This is what we found.

In Bali.

Nice - what equipment did you take with you ? Do come to Melbourne some day, it's OK, but probably nowhere near as exciting and exotic as Bali !

Very much appreciate you stopping by. Thank you.

I never did get to Australia. But the wife did. A few times.
Once, specifically, to a small town near Melbourne..Rosebud.
She was there for squash training!!

Beautiful pictures of the coast. Lovely time. she had there.

I had my D700 and the Zf 35/2, and the Zf 100/2 Makro Planar with
which all images of Bali were captured.

Best regards.

Faris, I love your and your wife's photos and your approach to travel photography (looking for the small details that speak large about a culture). Do you have a website or a flickr page?

Beautiful images! I was in Bali for a short time in August. It really is a photographers paradise. You have captured it very well.

Steve, once again my thanks. I am in the process of giving some semblance to the various images that we have collected over the years.

Shortly.
