Bargain of the century

It turns out that the job lot of camera came from a local charity shop. They knew nothing about cameras too and passed it on to the auctioneer in order to get rid of them.
So a number of people failed to spot the Leica...
The original owner gave it to the charity shop free of charge!!!
The charity shop didn't know its true value and passed it to the auctioneer.
The auctioneer estimated the value of the entire job lot at 20-30GBP.

If feel a bit guilty that I got it so cheap and a charity shop missed out on a large donation. However, they must be happy... I paid 4 times the auctioneer's estimate!!!

I was very lucky... I've been visiting auctions for 4 years now and have never seen a Leica at one before. I was also lucky that I was the only person at the auction that knew its true value.

I'm off down to the charity shop this afternoon to see if they've got any more :)

Congrats on the deal. But makes me wonder how incompetent an auctioneer has to be not to make out the value of a Leica in the age of the Internet. Ebay ... hello?

Wow, what a deal! Congrats! I thought I was lucky scoring two argus c3's for $10 on ebay yesterday. Way to knock me down a couple notches! :p
 
Been away and just saw this thread. Congratulations! One of the pleasures of life; finding bargains in things we like. I just came across an Anscomatic 726 camera. It is the size of my Canonet III 17. It has two battery compartments, one apparently for the cube flash. Cute. Haven't had a chance to run film through it yet. I do have a couple of cartridges in the freezer so I may try. $1.90. Not bad, I just don't know what I would do with it.
 
oh my god... wowowow. i wish i could get a camera like that for 800!!! I would do so many things for that!
