I was given a Bogen 3040/3046 (two different numbers on the same tripod) with some funky fluid head. The tripod seems to be solid but I'd like to replace the head that's on it. My question is, do all tripod heads have the same 3/8" female threads to mount to a tripod? There doesn't seem to be any published information on the head I'm looking at regarding how it mounts to the tripod. Does anyone have any experience with the Cullmann 40190? http://www.adorama.com/CUBH40190.html and http://www.cullmann-foto.de/en/products/tripods/magnesit/40190Magnesit30Nm_eng.htm

Well it is either 1/4-20 or 3/8. But after looking at the Adorama ad it clearly states in the spec:
Female Thread size (Connect to Tripod): 1/4"-20
and
(for the camera): changeable Platform for 1/4" and 3/8" threads

Most heads do connect to the tripod bodies via 3/8 screws. Especially if you stick with Manfrotto/Bogen heads.
never used the cullman.
