Having just finally won the struggle of the stuck battery cover, I'm now at my second bridge crossing. Yashica FX-2 once took a 1.3v mercury battery. Anybody know the modern day equivilent?

You can replace it with MRB625 -

or in Europe on

Works nice.

alternately - you can spend a few bucks to get a Chris Camera battery converter, that uses smaller 1.5v easily found silver button cells, and converts them to the right voltage and size.
the MR9 converter (about $25 I think) should replace the one in your Yashica. If you shoot it alot, it's well worth it IMO, since you can buy replacement batteries just about anywhere (and for cheap).

Here is a list of batteries you can use. I forget where I found this list but it has been a big help to me. I hope it helps you too.
E164, A544, 4LR44, V164PX, PX28A, 1404M, TR164.
The A544 is the one that I was able to find and use with the adaptor.
