You may find the following short article on the BBC website to be interesting: http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20130726-leica-shoot-to-thrill

I believe it may contain a small number of inaccuracies, at least implicitly (for example, I have read that Doisneau's "Paris lovers" pictures was not taken on a Leica, but the author does not actually say it was); and it implies, but does not state, that the M9 is Leica's latest digital offering; but it is well written and, to me, interesting. It seems like the standard understanding is that every famous photographer used a Leica.

Capa started out with one, but almost all the pictures he is famous for were shot with a Contax.

Arbus' very early work was done with a Leica, but all of her famous work was done with a Rollei or Mamiya 6x6.

I 'believe' Doisneau used a Rolleiflex for the Kiss photo. I may be wrong.

Yes, I believe you are right about the Doisneau image -- and doubtless the others too! When you see the quality a poster-sized version of Doisneau's photograph you appreciate that it couldn't have been taken on a 35mm frame of film of that vintage. Nettar
