What works for me..... (most of the tme)
I shot tri x or Arista 400 (same thing) at either 320 or 400. 320 when it will be a bit darkr out or if i forget to set it to 400.
I dont do it as much now but i used to keep a little book of notes per roll of film. I recorded info by frame with F stop and shutter speed.
Develop in d 76 1+1 for 9.5 minutes
I then look over the negs and see where i was over/under exposed. The initial trick for me was to get my exposure in the ballpark on a regular basis kept the developer, time and complcation to a bare minimum to avoid introducing variables. I was, and still am, the biggest variable
