I grew up reading about, following, and wanting to be one of these guys.
Now looking back fifty years later, not sure I ever would have had the guts. But boy did I admire what they were doing.

Gosh, that's a powerful story.
One of my best friends was infantry for eight years, and deployed to Afghan and Papua New Guinea. During his Afghan tour, he would sometimes send curiously humorous emails about how he was looking at photos and movies I'd sent while 'the pitter patter of tiny mortar shells' was falling near base. I'm sure he hasn't told me half of what he's seen.
As much as I believe in getting close and getting the shot, I don't think I could do war.
