I met up with SolaresLarrave (Francisco) after work tonight, and had a great time drinking coffee, jabbering and playing with nice German (and Portuguese) cameras.

However, he's a real meanie. Along with everything else, he brought along his wonderful DS M3.

I am totally in love! I've been casually looking for a late DS to use with my 40 Cron and 90 Elmar-C, and now know it would be the perfect choice for a daily carry camera with those lenses.

The buttery wind! That magnificent VF! The amazing 90mm framelines! (At first, I thought the 135mm framelines were the 90mm, and the 90mm the 50mm!)

Francisco is a cruel, cruel man. Nice, though.

Francisco, thanks again for a wonderful time - I hope we can do it again soon! Maybe a trip downtown on a Saturday to hit Central and shoot the Loop?

Hi Ken, it's good to hear that you "got it" and felt the Leica feel. Some folks don't. Sometimes I envy them. :)

Frank, it really is different than my M6 or my old M4-P! I think I may have moaned the first time I wound Francisco's M3, and drooled a little.

An M3 would give my very nice 90 Elmar-C a new lease on life.

Ahhh, my first Leica... I remember it well.

Son, you'll never forget your first. She's seduced you and you are hers.

Ken,
By your enthusiasm/love I thought this was your first M. Silly me. I guess this M3 must be someting special. I have to admit, I've never handled one. I've used both and M6, M6TTL and now have an MP.

Tom, I found the DS to be no problem at all - the throws are very natural. I tend to use my M6 the same way, preferring several short strokes versus one long one that forces me to move the camera too far from my eye.

every photographer should own an m3, for a while anyway, at least once in their life.
i liked the ds, felt like shifting my little mx3.

I loved my M3 DS, even though I had to part with it, the DR and the 90 cron. One thing though.... when I held grainhound's M2 up to my eye, I melted. You have played with a top-notch M2 with 35 cron attached, haven't you?

Yeah, for years after I sold my M4-P I wanted an M2. Really, an M2 isn't practical for me any more - I like 28mm and 75mm lenses. My M6 is a good fit.

It's what I've been shooting with the last few days :) . I'm not sure my M2's "top notch" though. I tried an M3 yesterday while disposing of my M6TTL and just couldn't get on with the lack of space around the 50 frame but I am a speccy ****.

Magus, you're removing your 75 frame. I'm shocked.

Why are you closing your left eye, why not leave it open?

What was the £$%@, before the **** got to it...

I use a 28mm on a M2 (and M4-2) and don't have a problem other then the lens flaring occassionally, and yes I have specs to.

I don't always close my left eye when framing. Usually not with a 35 as I shoot pretty "loose" and often use zone focusing with that FL. I still like more room around the 50 frame, I suppose I've just got used a .72 finder.

I did the **** myself to allow people to think up their own rude words :)
