Good to see another J-3 user. I use mine on a Bessa R2a and have been so satisfied that the only 50mm I want to get is a better copy of a J-3 or the modern 50/1.5 sonnar from Zeiss.
Thanks , in favt I've also the 50mm Nokton and I use more the Jupiter due to its smaller size despite the modern Nokton is sharper... now I'll have to test a recently bought Summar 50mm f2
Does this lens have focus shift at 1.5? What is the optimal aperture for this lens? If I were to grab this lens, of Ebay does it require adjustment to work with a modern RF?

Mine cost USD$60, and it came with free scratches and a spot on the rear element! It is a really fine lens in a small package though, it has a class of it's own. It's even smaller then a summicron or a summilux!

Due to slightly different standards, an FSU lens should be off by about 2.5 cm. Should only be noticeable at f/2.8 and wider and close up. I find DOF covers it 99% of the time. Some people compensate by using the "focus on the nose, not the eyes" rule when up close and wide open. In reality, some lenses have no shift, some have the shift, and some are way off.
It should require no adjustment to fit on a modern LTM camera, but work may have to be done if the focus is off.
I like this lens at all apertures. Mine is a 1960 example from fedka.com, and it's been perfect since the day I got it. I highly recommend buying from fedka, especially a "difficult" lens like the J-3.
