Bessa R2 Serial Numbers

Are the serial numbers on the Bessa R2 (printed in the hotshoe) sequential or in some other format? I ask because mine is a little low...

IIRC, there weren't terribly many made, so low numbers could maybe be expected.

Nope...that's pretty low. Mine's 1492 (see song lyric in my prev post).

I wonder how many were made?

Apparently only 2500 of the olive R2s were ever made. Now discontinued these are undoubtably a surefire collectors item of the future.

Mine says 5123. If only the 1 was a 7, then that would be the first 4 prime numbers, although slightly out of order. Oh well, guess I'll have to use it for taking photos instead of reminding me of the first 4 primes.

My black R2 bears #0002179. I got it in May 2004 in Montreal, Canada.

I wonder if the first three digits (zeroes) are due to over-the-top optimism or some form of japanese humour... 😛

I searched yesterday myself and couldn't find the mention Zhemgang.

There was a mention of the total number of cameras of each color on the R2 page, but that is gone now.

Maybe the mention was the first years production? Although all our numbers do seem to be below the 6500 mark.

No, the mention was total production. I did think it was remarkably low, 4500 Black and 2500 Olive, very close to that. Of course it could have been removed because it was inaccurate.
