Bessa R2

Sounds as if you are well on your way, I think at your age I had just gotten a fixed lens scale focus 35mm, ;-), my upgrade from a Brownie. You now have excellent tools, I would like to see some results when you get something you would like to post.

Terrific time to get into film photography, good luck.

I made me the same question some time ago.
When I got my R2 (used), I decided to get the 35 color skopar (used) first because many people told me that it was the common and ideal lens, after that I bought a 50 heliar classic (new).
After some time, I saved the money for an Epson R-D1s and became very comfortable with the crop factor and decided to get the 75 color-heliar (very used) for my R2 and the 50 heliar classic for the R-D1s to have the same or related length.
I like the portrait photography, the last lens that I bought was the 50 nokton (new) and it is always in my R-D1s.
My conclusion is that you have to try some lengths and lenses until you find the lens that is for your photography.
All my lens are CV and I had never complain for the quality that they gave me. I like them very much. You can try another lenses, but I am sure that for the CV price that you pay you will be happy.

Jake,
Enjoy the R2 and the lens. For a high quality/low cost 50mm lens get the Canon 50/1.8. No other lens can even compete with it wrt quality/cost ratio.
