My daughter has been using my ZI and ZM 50mm f1.5 for the past 5 months or so and has now decided to get her own rig. She is presently leaning towards a Bessa R3M and a Nokton 50mm f1.1. Before she pulls the trigger I thought I would see if anyone has experience with this setup.
Starting to get jealous..........😀

I'd worry a bit as to whether the R3M has enough effective base length to focus the 1.1 accurately wide open. Other than that the R3M is a nice unit.

I think the rendering of the cv 50/1.5 is much nicer than the 50/1.1. But, if you need the speed then you need the speed.

I haven't used the 50/1.1 before, but have used the 50/1.5 on my R3M and it is a great combo. Going to put the combo up for sale soon anyway though as I try to shuffle around my gear a bit and minimize things.

Is she okay with the size of the 50/1.1?

It depends on eyesight too...

I focus at 1.4 with a lower EBL camera (R4M) but I've heard people say they can't...

Can't she try the set before buying? Maybe buy the lens first and borrow an R3A for a day...

Cheers,

Juan

Really?

Well, the R4M was my first RF, and I guess I had to use it... And I've used Bessas only, so that's where I trained my eye...

I don't scan too much: you might have seen I posted this shot before, in other threads about the 40 Nokton... R4M+40 at 1.4, handheld in low light with TMax3200: sharp and well focused...

She is going down to NYC to try out the combo at Photovillage. So she can try out a 1.1 and a 1.5. I hope I am not starting an endless rabbit hole known as GAS for her.

How about giving her ZI and Sonnar, and getting yourself an M3 with the 1.1 Nokton 🙂 Perfect fit to your M6 and will satisfy your MP lust; well maybe ...

To your question, if the R3* works, it's no problem with the 50/1.1. A 50/1.1 doesn't need a very long EBL, in particular with 1m min. focus. Run the numbers ... Even an R2 or Leica CL would work.

How about an R3A with a 40 nokton? Pretty versatile kit

Much cheaper, smaller and lighter too!

I like the results from the 40 nokton classic (SC version) but I find it harder to focus than almost all of my other lenses -- I guess I am too used to big SLR lenses with autofocus, or manual focusing with a full-size ring vs. a focusing tab. YMMV.
