I have recently had the chance to use a Bessa R4A.

Even though the instruction manual states the shutter is electronic, it appears to be mechanical with an electronic actuation?

Hence, the 1/2000 shutter speed along with aperture priority mode and EV correction ability.

Is this assumption correct?

Thank you in advance.

I think you are right, but that's what old-fashioned folks like me call an electronic shutter. This dates back to way before the electronic shutters on modern digital bodies, which concept is simply not available for film...

4RM is M only camera. 4RA is M and AP camera.
4RM will works without batteries, while on 4RA for some electronic reasons you can't operate it in Manual mode without batteries.

An electronic shutter in film land implies a shutter whose release and speed are controlled electronically, they are also the shutters in the digital cameras but some have a "pure" electronic shutter, which is of course silent something the Bessa could never be accused of, that reads the data across the digital frame in a "sweep" of the pixels.
Some focal plane shutters are electronic (control), such as the Leica M7, you will find them quieter than the Bessa but at a different price point.
What were you expecting?
