Best 35mm SLR?

Woo Hoo, that is 4 votes for the SRT 101!!!

Lets talk underdog, but very well made, just as capable as the next film box on the corner, and cheap as can be manual work horse.

Now, don't you all go rushing over to ebay to buy them, I am still having fun picking up very nice SRTs with fast prime lenses for $30 or less!!!

Scouting the Bay every other day for good deals... On bodies and those beautiful Rokkor (and, I must say, Zuiko) lenses...

I should report that I lost my mind and purchased an Aria and a Zeiss/Contax 100-300mm zoom. No logic to GAS. .. also developed a hankering for Velvia 50.. bit slow for the zoom but might be great for the rangefinders.... ugh....

After the dust settled, all my budget for my new Fujifilm X100 has been spent, but I'm about to try to master a new film and a bit of a new way of seeing things. I picked up the Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.4 and Hoya HD Circular Polarizer for the Aria. I'm going to start a year long project having fun with Velvia 50. I've decided to keep this as a permanent pair, so I picked up a Contax RX, which seemed to be a better match for the 100-300mm. Photography as a hobby has so much depth. Now, I need to figure out how to get more time off. I never did go the route of purchasing an EOS body. I looked at my Canon lenses and they are so bulky compared to the manual focus Zeiss. I'll need to start saving again for that X100. Maybe 2012.. or maybe the X2..

I just picked up another mint Leica R4! I don't remember it being so but the viewfinder is bigger than the F3 Nikon and the same size as the F and F2's. Very smooth in operation and more quiet than the Nikon's. The R's are nice slr's.

Dad may be right

Dad may be right

Dad With A Camera may be right - my first camera was a Minolta SRT-101, first version, 55/1.7 Rokkor lens, brass & glass, no rubber. What WAS I thinking when I sold it (to my sister)? Well, the Nikkormat FTn was a good intro to the world of Nikon. F2 is a smooth machine, but I've regressed to Apollo F models, plain prism.

Then again, for Xmas I treated myself to a Leicaflex SL. Same metering (chase-needle) as the SRTs, but a defininte "Leica feel." Then again, isn't the Hasselblad an "SLR"?

Here is the Best Pro SLR ever made!

The Minolta SR-M.

My favorite, Hands-Down.

Along with the SRT-101, of course.

Lens/Camera test.... This is one bright viewfinder and smooth shutter & advance.... Thanks for the suggestion. I think that I'm in love.

I've owned and used over the years Nikons (Fs and F2), Minoltas (SRT101 and X700), Zeiss (Contarex and Contaflex), and Leicas (R6, Leicaflex SL and SL2) and my favorite mechanical film SLR by a long shot is the Leicaflex SL. So much better made, more user friendly and practical, and, of course, the leica lenses are very good.

The only real con is it's big and heavy, like the F2.

Since my last post in this thread I've bought an F6!

It changes nothing ... I still think the OM-1 is the best SLR ever made. :)

F6 with AF-D for autofocus, FM3a with Voigt SLII lenses for manual focus and mechanical backup.

The only 'flaw' with these two great Nikon bodies is that they won't accommodate Minolta lenses! I hang on to a Minolta XD-7 in order to enjoy the Rokkors which I just find the strongest all round set of SLR lenses.

I love my Minolta 9xi. Actually I love it so much that I bought another one just in case I need spare parts. Lens-wise I desperately need a AF 50 f/1.7, the cheap 28-80 I have doesn't do any justice to the camera.
