Hi folks ,

I am looking for opinion on the best 50mm lens that will match the 28mm Cron asph in terms of color and rendering .

I have a 50mm pre asph 1.4 summilux ( e46 model with extendable hood ) , but find the images between the two quite different , preferring the 28mm asph Cron. ( the Cron seems to produce rich , detailed , sharp pics while the pre asph lux is lower contrast and softer , particularly wide open )

I was just going to buy the 50mm Cron v5 but am wondering as its not an asph lens is there a better match ? ( I am willing to consider non leica lenses ) .

Finally, I would consider the 50lux asph but would prefer not to have to spend the $$ :) .

Thanks for your time

James

50 cron or 50 ZM Planar! They match well with digital and 28 asph cron.
If you shoot more film, i think the lux works more beautifully! but just my opinion :) i did sell my lux and went with the cron for its size.

Thanks for the info guys .

I forgot to mention that I will mostly be shooting Digital M9 with the new 50mm lens .

(Although I recently got an M6 , but planned to go with a more vintage feel using a 50mm cron rigid )

I think you really have to spend the $$ and get at least a Summilux 50 asph,( or preferably ;) an ApoSummicron) to match the quality and rendering of your 28.

what jaap said. i saved for 3 years to get the 50 asph as a mate for the 28 cron asph. they pair very well. you might consider selling the pre-asph 50 lux and working up the addi'l cash for the asph. i believe the lux asph to be worth it, but that's just this user's opinion. i've not used a cron 50 on an M9, but did use the 50 planar and c-sonnar before the 50 asph. the 50 planar is a very nice mate to the 28 f/2, for much less money. the c-sonnar is more like the pre-asph lux and unlike the 28 f/2's style.

Can you tell the difference between the Xeon and lux asph from f2?

Can you tell the difference between the Xeon and lux asph from f2?

It seems that there is a strong feeling that the lux is the way to go , and I think with the sale of my per asph lux I can get there.

But I have a question ... Can you tell the difference between the summicron and the lux ASPH from f2 ? ( it will be unlikely that the images will be viewed on anything other than my apple monitor or printed beyond A3 ) . Do they have distinct individual characters or are they pretty much the same from f2 ?

Thanks for your help guys , I went with the lux in the end so my pair are now both ASPH .
According to the dealer it's the one lens you will never regret buying ...lol we will see.

Yes - although the lenses both leave nothing to be desired regarding image quality, they have a very different character imo.
