Sam, which rangefinder bodies do you use? I am far-sighted as well.

I have a couple of fixed lens RF's...Olympus 35-S and Aires 35 IIIc...
I mostly use SLR's and have no problem focusing with either cameras...
The problem is trying to focus on something that's closer than 10 - 12 inches to my eyes...I cannot see a sliver in my finger but I can focus a camera...:bang:
When using a TLR or any W/Level finder I have to use the magnifier...

I roll over 46 this September.
It rained hard on me all the way home from N. Scottsdale to Glendale and again later in the evening. Most rain I've seen in some time.

The strange thing is, I have no problems focusing with my Pentax LX with just a plain clear screen, things just "snap" into focus somehow.

Thanks everyone for your generous advice, I appreciate it. I can see now that a trip to an optometrist is in my immediate future 🙂

Bunch of whippersnappers. I have no problem focusing (my cameras anyway) but have a hard time seeing the aperture numbers, film counters, speed dial etc., at night. Too close and its a blur and when I move the dial further away it's too dark to read. I've taken to carrying a key chain mag light.

I need glasses for reading but my normal vision is still excellent. But with my Hexar and M6 I had the same problem. With the eyepiece finders supplied with the cameras, focussing was much easier wearing my reading glasses but quite difficult without. So I bought a different dioptre eyepiece for the Hexar and a Megaperl 1.15 variable dioptre magnifier. Honestly the difference was like night and day. I can focus both cameras now easily without glasses.

After years of increasing trouble, specially with SLRs, I am now a happy man. I had cataract surgery over a year back, and the implanted lenses are such that I need no correction for RF or SLR finders. Like Steamer, I cannot read small lettering: so I wear a pair of reading glasses or bifocals on a string around my neck.

As I think Mukul Dube was saying, my eyesight is better now after cataract surgery than for many years before. I mostly don't need glasses now -- not for driving or using the computer -- except for close small stuff like seeing the ISO setting on the camera. 😡 So like many respectable old geezers I carry a folding magnifier in my pocket. I appreciate cameras with built-in adjustable diopter correction, like the Contax G2 for one.

You really need to try the Zeiss Ikon. It is a different feel than the M, but by far a MUCH better view finder.
