Hey everyone. New here, just got myself a Bessa R off eBay, satisfying my need for a real quality metered RF. Now I have the problem of a quality lens...

It's currently mated with an old 50/2 Jupiter 8. I've shot a roll, had a look at the negatives and they look fine. I've got no way of scanning them in at the moment, but I think the lens is alright. But I really want to do the camera justice whilst playing around with some shorter focal lengths. What sort of 35mm lenses would I be looking at for, say, around the £100 mark. I know it's not much, but I'm on a bit of a tight budget.

Cheers guys, as soon as I get my negs scanned, I'll be sharing some of the better results...

I dont think Jupiter fits all Bessas..? The older models of 35mm Skopar are not too expensive, but more than £100. You could probably get one for around £150.

Yeah, I've heard some horror stories about the Jupiter 12 with the Bessas... don't really want to risk it if it's going to break my camera... Aye, I've kept an eye out for those Color Skopars, haven't found a particularly good deal yet. Guess I'll have to sell off some of my old un-used cameras to afford it or something like it...

Jupiter 12 WILL NOT fit on a Bessa. It will hit the sensor for the meter.

Cheap finder? Look for an aftermarket w/a-tele lens kit. They're dirt cheap and
come with (more or less) 35mm/85mm combo optical finder.

The Ultron 35/1.7 is also great (I've had one) and not VERY expensive. If you want lens speed cheap rather than the small and nice Skopar f2.5...
Btw check my signature 😉

Does that mean you want to buy one as well? I noticed you were interested in the Color Skopar on the Classifieds.

Yeh I'll have to keep an eye on that one, see how much it goes for. Cheers guys, great help as usual 🙂

Can't believe how much that eBay auction came to - £220 with delivery. Now you see how expensive things are here in the UK...

I was in the same boat as you when I got my Bessa R. I had a j-12 but knew better than to try it. I finally succombed to a color skopar 35/2.5. Glad I did. It's probably the cheapest 35mm lens you will find. The canon ltm 35's usually cost a bit more.

Maybe the RFF link helped 😀

I would have expected a price around £100. I bidded on a PII-version early last week or so, which ended £133. Thats not expensive. Now I regret I didn't bid more, but back then I wasn't sure I want it.

Well yeah. Most I am interested in the Ultron, as I have great experiences with it... But they seem to be hard to find (and I keep selling them and then buying one again) just now, so I will consider a PII Skopar, because it is much like the Summicron was the reason to sell the Ultron (and money is the reason to go back).

the jupiter-8 already on there is a really good lens.

i recently got a silver one from the 1960's and have shot a few rolls. looks plenty nice.
