Best deal on new S3 2000?

B&H shipped the case right out, no charge for "Return of Customer's Property" and apologized for the inconvenience. Mistakes happen, the difference between a good and bad dealer is the way they handle it.

B&H certainly earns my respect as a good dealer. Their S3-2000 carries the full Nikon USA warranty, includes lens, shade, and case. Everything was new, factory sealed. I think the $2,295 plus reasonable $20 UPS insured shipping is quite a deal on these formerly $5,000 cameras.

Unboxed, loaded, and in the Case. It is beautiful.

Like Vince, I'm amazed how well the viewfinders of the original RF's have faired compared to the S3-2000. It is hard to tell the difference between the recently CLA'd S3 from this one.

The only thing that I could not get used to was the metal lens cap. Just did not feel right. So I put an original on it.

Sounds like time for a camera and coffee with it's friend from Germany... :D

I agree with William. It would be nice to see the old and the new S3's with a cup of joe. Regarding the lens cap, didn't the original come with a metal lens cap? My original S3 lenses have metal hoods and caps.

Tomorrow morning: time for Coffe.

The original Nikkor push on caps were metal. Then they went to an early plastic. The "push button" caps were all plastic, to my knowledge. The plastic caps are a little thinner. I found the case was a bit tight with a B&W UV filter and the metal cap. The earlier plastic cap was a little thinner.

Well I'm pleased to say that a fellow RFF'r has further reduced the B&H's stock of S3-2000's.

And they sent a PM to personally thank me for it!

Although the wording was funny.

Like "Can Blame you", "It's all your Fault"...

Yup. Changed that HTTP from

display_subliminal_message("Buy an M3");

to

display_subliminal_message("Buy an S3");

Ok pardon my ignorance about the S3, but I was browsing this online ad site and I saw a black S3 in mint condition for 800$. From what I hear and see, this sounds like an incredible price.

Is this a very good deal (assuming it is in good working order).

Thanks for helpign a noob :D

Edit: ok so I saw the price at B&H... I am contacting the buyer right away. Thanks anyway!

I would not even have considered it if it wasnt in my hometown. I contacted the seller to see if I could see the S3.

Grab it for $800. It is worth several times that. Sometimes these things happen. My first Nikon RF was an S4, traded to me for an N8008. The owner inherited it and told me it was an S2. Took me a while to figure out why an S2 would start in the SN 65 block.

Actually, I already did. Leaving me with two -- an original and a 2000 edition. Plus I just got my SP CLA'd by Stephen Gandy. So I'm set on Nikon RFs for the next 50 years.

$800 for a Black S3 sounds like a don't-pass-it-up deal. Just saw an original black SP go on Ebay for about $2,300. Also a fantastic price.

Just got back from a product show at work, including B&H camera. had a nice chat with the sales reps, including letting them know that after the show I came back and ordered the S3-2000 from them after seeing it in the catalog that they were handing out. For home, of course, with my dollars.

The S3-2000 is not in the most recent catalog. On the web site, it is marked "in-stock". I suspect supplies are getting low. If you are going to get one new, with USA warranty and all of the accessories, I suggest you act sooner than later.

You can't buy the 1964 Olympic 50mm F1.4 for this price. The Millenium Nikkor is even sharper, and is multicoated. It's like getting a free S3 with case. And one in Mint condition, with a warranty and boxes.
