Best digital camera that will fit in my pants pocket?

Another vote for the GR for 28mm. Love it.

The RX100 II delivers, objectively, the best image quality of a pocketable zoom.... but my personal pick would be the X20 due to the OVF and wider aperture at the telephoto end. But you need big pants to slide it into the pocket. (Which begs the question, which is more important: Your camera or your pants?)

Only one choice for me...x100s !!!

Fits even skinny jeans, hybrid finder, fastest focus, built like a tank.

Second choice would be Sony RX100

It really depends if you dress to the left or right. I like a D90 with a 70-300, it always gets me attention and compliments.

Seriously though, I've had film GRs get pretty dirty from pant's pockets, look at the lint they collect. I think the camera stays cleaner outside where the particulate can fly off instead of being ground into the cracks.

Well I settled for the DP2M....though sometimes i wish i had gotten the DP1M 28mm
not quite jean pocket but coat pocket one can do

Simplistic in Menu & ergonomics
Slow in processing shot in camera
But Sublime in Monochrom & Detail...Stellar in fact !

I carry a point and shoot digital every day.
It is in a small pouch.
It hangs on a string around my neck.
A Canon 1200. Easily replaceable.$75.
It is all I need unless I want film.
A Leica-M with collapsible lens easily carried as the point and shoot!
I suggest never carrying a camera in a pocket.
Way too much dust, lint and debris.

I have been using the Lumix LX5 as my "pocket" camera for some time now, and though I have tried newer cameras, I still haven't found any which are good enough to justify my changing. I am one of those who looks at the labels of the things I buy, and I like that Lumix (like Fuji) still build most of their cameras in Japan. I think Lumix has the best balance of performance, price, and IQ.

In talking more about the "Made in Japan" label, my office is located near Akihabara in Tokyo, and this area is home to large numbers of electronics stores and shops, and is popular with tourists, especially those from China. Surprisingly, the Chinese always look at the labels on cameras and electronics, and they refuse to buy products made in China. Panasonic, Fuji, or the high-end Nikon and Canon cameras are always their top pics.

I also like the "Leica" designation on the Lumix lenses

Nice, eh? When I bought my TZ40, it was sitting next to the LX7 and I was so very tempted. Then I asked myself how happy would I be with a 90mm equivalent lens and picked the TZ40.

I think I made the right choice :)
