Best Film/Lens/Camera combo for Indoor Portraits?

Twenty years from now you won't want a box of kid's photos showing only facials. You'll want to see them opening gifts, blowing out candles, petting animals, all the things that will remind you of those occasions. Go wide or normal.

precisely the reason i'm saving up for a fast 35mm lens. f2 and iso 400 does nicely in all indoor situations.

Definitely stick with an SLR, and a fast 50. A 50 tends to focus pretty close, so you can do a pretty tight shot if you want. When the baby turns into a toddler and starts tearing all over the place, there's no way a rangefinder will be able to keep up -- seeing your subject through the lens is just plain easier. An 85 or 90 portrait lens is great, but offers even less depth of field wide open -- tough with a moving target!
