I shoot mainly B&W and therefore am really gratefull for the uncoated elmars, summars, summarons etc.

But whats a good lens for colour film/slides, true colours, good rendition etc ?

Any lens will do. You'll have to use them and see which one you prefer.

.... Allas I don't have the funds to try them all ... what I do see is that an uncoated elmar provides different results than a VC35mm ultron ... neither of which I like, I know it will dependant on the film you use, but there must be differences ...

I haven't tried many Leica lenses but if you search the threads there have been a number of comparisons made. I posted some shots with the difference between a J3, 2 Cannons and the Nokton. Brian Sweeny did his "which is the J3" that included a Nikon and Raid has done some as well. You couls also try the gallery and see if people have posted the lens used. This will give you a better idea of what you are looking for. Much will depend whether you want a true colour rendition or a brighter more in the face look. The biggest difference will probably be between slides and normal colour film than it will between lenses.

I think Kim has a point here as far as colour is concerned, and it goes further than slide vs. normal film. There's plenty difference between emulsions targeted at portraiture and films to give saturated colours for your holiday pictures.

True, lenses have different character. But that character shows in B&W as well (like sharpness, contrast, light fall-off, bokeh).
