I am looking to buy a Mamiya Six folder, probably late model such as an automat or automat II.

These cameras are available with the coated zuiko 75mm lens or the more rare mamiya sekor lens.

I am trying to work out which lens would be the best. Are there any other lenses I might find in this camera if I look long enough ?

It seems to me this camera will allow quite rapid shooting because of its design, but I would forsake the automat convenience for the best lens possible.

I use Mamiya Press cameras and find those older mamiya sekor lenses to be really good, but I think the Mamiya Six 75mm lens labelled mamiya sekor predates the press lenses, so I'm not sure this is a valid parallel to draw.

I would appreciate information on lens choice, especially from people who have used both types.

Many Thanks.

I have three Maiyas, Automat, 6P, and Automat II.
7.5/3.5 Zuiko, Setagaya Koki Sekor, and Mamiya Sekor. Haven't seem much difference in the lenses but if I'd have to give a nod it would be to the later Mamiya-Sekor. Probably better coatings as it is the last model. I think the major differences lie in the bodies as time moved on. Some like the dual format models but what I don't like about the 6P is the fastest shutter speed of only 1/300 sec. It was intended as a less expensive model.

I'm pretty sure the Zuiko and the Sekor are similar formulas: tessar clones. Pretty decent quality. The latest ones will have better coatings. The amount of fungus and haze would be the biggest problem in the those old folders. The automat ii's (if I remember) will command much more $ than the earlier ones.

Have a look at the Fuji Super 6's as well. Similar quality to the Mamiya but often much cheaper.
