Best point and shoot under $100

as everyone here has said a stylus epic would be the best choice. However I recently spent a hundred bucks and scored a bunch of cameras among them a yashica RF and an argus a2b with a fuji digital cam with 1gig card all for 100 bucks (including tax and shipping)
 
Pretend that the Konica S2 is a small camera, and you have a relaible camera with a great lens and under $50.

A real gem. The worse battery lid in the universe but the camera and lens are fantastic. I've had one for a few years and it takes tack sharp pictures with beautiful color saturation's. The first time I used it was at my Mum & Dad's Golden wedding anniversary. My dad took his Leica C1 and my brother used it as my dad wanted to make sure he got top notch photo's of his big day. He asked me for mine that I'd taken with the 120 as he saw they wiped the floor with the Leica C1 pics. Two years later and now my dad has just bought one for less than $15. I've had a Bigmini and a couple Stylus Epics, I think the Bigmini was better, but mine broke after just a few years, the Stylus Epic seem better made for rough/travel usage.

The Minox 35's are excellent and make a great P&S if you can get over guess focusing... and you can put a little Vivitar bounce unit on it for really great indoor flash photos.
 
Another one to consider is the Rollei Prego 90. There are two version's which are both reputed to be stunning performers, but it is said the one with the Schneider Variogon lens is "to die for". I've just bought one and i'm putting a film through it so will let you know if the lens really is that good. I've seen a lot of pictures on the web taken with this and it really seems like it's a top performer. Be aware that it is somewhat of a trade description violation to describe this camera as a compact. It's about the size of a rangefinder like the Canon GIII QL17. Only slightly smaller than an Pentax Spotmatic. Great for big handed people but you need big pockets to use it as a pocketable camera! Feels well made though and has some useful settings. Exposure compensation +/- 3 EV is one. Another is a button that activates infinity lock. Because the camera's focusing system can not penetrate glass, if you're taking a picture of a distant object through a window then it focuses to infinity. Portrait mode frames the subject. It even zoom in/out for you so you get the correct framing of the subject.

Well it has been 8 months since I started this thread and I have gone through quite a few rolls with the Stylus Epic, the photos are as good as or if not better than all my other cameras, SLR, or rangefinder. The photos are consistently very good which is great.

I have just purchased a very nice MINOX ML - one owner less than 20 rolls. I am interested in getting a small but quality zoom to complement it. The Canon 120 sounds great. I also like the sound of the FUJI DL Super Mini. Does anyone have any other options? Needs to be small and compact. Any experience with the Minolta Riva Zooms or the Pentax Espio 120W? Would be prepared to go 'upmarket' for a quality camera. Thanks.
 
The FujiFilm FinePix Z20FD is a pretty good camera... it's about $100. I think it may be a little hard to find one < 100. You may want to look for coupon codes. But you should checkout the Z20FD

I still have to stick with my earlier choice of a Pentax PC35AF. Easy to use. F2.8 5-element lens, +1.5 backlight correction, sharp photos. And it looks 80's-snazzy too!

Don't know about the T4 but I had 3 T3. Two of them had problems with the focus and in one the electronics died. Although they have the greatest lens I saw in a compact p&s they seem to be not to reliable.
Now a 4th one got his chance.

I just finished the film in a mju-II I got from rgbc, I am very curious if the results are better than the T3 delivered ones. The one advantage the mju has for sure is, that it fits better your pocket. (Physically, not money wise.)

btcg had it right (back on page one. This decision is just too subjective. And with the infinite amount of P&S models out there, the differences are dependant on your own tastes and preferences. I have 3 cameras I would consider P&S: Panasonic LX2, Pan FX01, and Leica Mini II. The Leica is by far my favorite. I can hand it to anyone and they can instantly get a good shot.
 
hehe...just read what I said on page one.

I must confess I ordered another P&S - PLASTIC, AF, MOTORIZED ZOOM camera (though, my first zoom P&S) 😱....wait, it haven't got even control over aperture like Electro MC has nor BLC/+2EV like Ricoh FF-70 or Pentax PC35AF have!

Just want to get my hands over it to reveal details what made me to step back.

I'd look for the Rollei AFM35 or Fuji Klasse S. Absolutely unbelievable camera. I've had my Rollei for about 3 or 4 months and the image quality is nothing short of stunning. The lens is an HFT coated Tessar variant with an aspherical element. One magazine test claimed it was the best compact lens they'd ever tested [outscoring the various Contax and Yashica compacts].

That said, if I couldn't find one of those at under $100, the Stylus Epic (aka mju II) is great. I love mine.

So true! I just picked up one of these and WOW! Great feel - made very solid, great features, (yet two things are annoying - battery cover and sliding flash). I didnt know what to expect of it as I have never heard of this one before, but after I got my first trial roll from it - absolutely AMAZING! Superb lens. Great exposure, just perfect little gem of a camera. And I got it at a good deal - battery for it cost me more than a camera itself! I'll have to scan some pics to show how good it really is!

I have been using an Olympic EPIC [some vignetting ?] and an Olympus XA [sharp but not super sharp no AF] plus a Minox GT [great lens, more costly, less reliable some say ?].

My duo for important trips: XA and GT. The XA can be found below $100. The GT .... maybe?
The XA2 or XA3 have very sharp lenses too, but zone focusing.

I have never regretted it.
