So I am wondering what would be the best strategy to get the nex7, soon after it is released. Should I just pay for it in Amazon or adorama and hope for the best, or would it be better to wait until it is released and then shop around for a dealer that has it in stock...just want to know what everyone thinks?

I'm not much of a believer in pre-ordering, but with Amazon, they have a good returns policy, so if you pre-order, and then find it cheaper even after receiving it, you can still send it back, or ask for a price match.

I'm thinking Sony is one of those companies that puts its cameras into many types of stores and this should be relatively easy to get.

Buy from an ebay seller from Hong Kong. They'll have dozens of them for sale soon after release. Some will even sell at MSRP with free shipping.

I'm first going to see if it pops up at my local Best Buy store like the other Nex cameras.

Sit back, relax. Have your credit card ready. You won't have trouble getting one unless there is a natural disaster or the Sony factory burns down.

Whats the problem?

Just order it on Amazon. In about a month a uniformed goverment agent will show up at your door with one in a box.

I guess having one as early as possible must be really, really , really important to some.

If the experience with the X100 is an indicator, the best way to get one as early as possible is a few hundred $ in extra cash. Then, just wait for the inevitable early bird auctions on eBay, or RFF ads for that matter, where people sell theirs after unboxing for a little extra early adopter markup.
